Newbie guide to eoserv forums

''It has become quite apparent that new users are at a loss when looking for help. It is often that they eventually get what they were looking for, more often than not these people are rude and somewhat 'wet behind the ears'.''

So you're new

Welcome to the forum.

Rules

''Hopefully'' you read the rules already since they're displayed upon registering.

If not then '''here's the link:''' http://eoserv.net/forum/rules

There's a link on the bar at the top of the page before 'Stats' (http://eoserv.net/forum/stats). The stats page is also useful, you can find out who actually administrates and moderates this forum, although not all of them are always active. That's where the 'community' comes in:

Need help? Searching or asking

Search search search.

Yes, people will expect you to use search. It's there and fully functional, there is nothing wrong with it and you will probably find what you're looking for.

''Some tips on searching:''

  • Keep it short and simple e.g. "compile guide" or "pub files".
  • Try to use proper spelling.
  • Use the second search bar labeled "Forum Search". Since the site support isn't at all great, the forum contains most of the information you're looking for.
  • Check out the wiki pages, there's some decent guides being made.

'''''Why not use search?''''' '''Here's why:'''

Sometimes you will not find what you're looking for. There may be duplicate threads that don't explain much, or there could be threads that just say "''Use search n00b''". Consequently, you may find searching just leads to ''flamewars'', where there may of once been a useful piece of information, but you cannot find it because... the community decided to graffiti their over-sized ego's negative thoughts all over the topic. Ironically this also leads to more searching.

Search failed? Ask somebody for help.

If you didn't find what you were looking for or just couldn't be bothered to search, you can post a topic asking for help. With any luck somebody may help you out, which future searchers may stumble upon when having the same issue.

''Tips on asking for help:''

  • Just like searching, except with more detail and with more input from you.
  • Be as detailed as you can, more detail = better.
  • Try to use proper spelling, some people may not be fluent in English and may find it difficult to read and therefore cannot offer any solutions. N0 W3B $L4NGZ PL0X.
  • Be well mannered. Nobody wants to help a thug, so don't type like you're ''gangsta''.
  • Post in the right section. While this can easily be fixed by moderators it can also be misleading and might also get you ''negative rating''.
  • Before you post, for crying out loud just look at the forum page for a minute. You could find a topic just like yours that was posted 3 hours ago and is still active. You could save yourself and us some time, just by being observant.
  • Remember that nobody here except the domain owner are earning any money from this. It is a voluntary organization. Don't get mad just because your post wasn't answered or somebody called you a ''n00b''. The best you could do is ignore it and hopefully someone will eventually help out.

'''Well that's about it.'''

It doesn't get more simple than this so read the rules, follow the guidelines and get what you're looking for. Good luck.
