A server that isn't made in just one day and isn't made just so the owner can have power over others.

good money system, preferably cash drop within the 50-100 gold range, custom client, custom maps, pets, and people don't get a Reborn within a day.

I would join that server in a heartbeat. Somone make it NAO!. xD

I don't know if you still have the same layout, but when I tried your server from the start you get plopped in a huge map with various npcs and a you have to be level 4 to leave the map which I remember, it taking it awhile and I got bored rather quick. I would suggest making the beginner maps more small things are easier to find cause I know from experience players hate walking.

I like Redrocco's server.  Very addicting, fun to play, i think its beat down FE/BU/EE easily, the quests make sense, lots of maps to explore, a custom client.

Id definitely recommend his server!!

So id say id like to see more servers like his.

I'm guessing what you did wrong was make the server "Challenging" and spend time on it. The only servers people play now are ones with Npcs that drop like 1000-1500 gold, reborn in under a day. Also servers that the owner spent like 20mins to make -.-

Not sure if going off topic or (Advertising) But yes RedRocco server is just like that and you actually have to work for your items. Its sort of like a newer version of EO but more updates and way more features.Anyways so you guys aren't interested in AoE weapons? Because that's what lots of players are looking for nowadays which I think really destroys the game play.

AoE can be very fun and exciting, but you must make it balanced. Take FE for example, from when I last played it everyone was just a warrior using the best AoE weapon they could afford. If your going to add AoE, then your going to have to add AoE spells to. These can balance it out for the classes. Adding AoE spells for the mage every level that the warrior should be getting an AoE weapon will balance it, and not just for Mage. There's still the Archer which could use AoE spells. E.g Fire Arrows (AoE of Fire from the Sky), Lightning Arrows (Small Thunder) etc. If you can balance these all out to work with other classes, then AoE will be a success.

Post #151195 Re: What do you guys look for in a server?

A dedicated admin team not composed of complete idiots who sometimes forget that they can type sentences without inserting an "@" before them.

Plain but interesting maps rather than random crazy shit like flashing neon floor tiles and Anundo dojos in Aeven.

A medium - high playerbase.

A decent economy in which decent item prices aren't in the millions.

Cool crafts or drops that give players an incentive to keep playing / level up.

A beginner tutorial and a good collection of quests to guide players along.

Somewhat of a challenge, although not TOO difficult.

A server that had all or most of those would be ideal for me.

Post #151295 Re: What do you guys look for in a server?

Hmm...where to start?

First off, I look for servers with admins that do there job, but at the same time they aren't too strict. Most of the time I find that they judge some situations too harshly, and it just leads to a whole lot of drama. Nobody wants to see mass spam of accusing an admin of power abuse on global, but at the same time, if someone is blanantly breaking rules, they have to be punished. Personally, I think rules should be handled case by case.

Secondly, I despise AoE and pets with a passion. Plain and simple...they break the game. Pets tend to be overpowered (and the ai for them usually ends up acting pretty dumb), and aoe weapons deal double damage at melee range, while at the same time, demolishing everything on the map to get godlike experience.

Thirdly, I don't mind servers that use the reborn feature, but it becomes a problem if people can be reborn in one day. If the reborn system were used where it takes mayby a few weeks (or even a month or two) to actually achieve a reborn, then I'd be fine with it.

Fourth, a server with a good storyline. Personally, I find quests help alot with the leveling process, and the dialog makes the server a whole lot more interesting, than say a situation where you go to a spot to train, and chase monsters for 9001 hours. I'm also fine with very hard quests, and quests with item rewards, as long as they aren't done in a way where it breaks the game. I also think quest rewards should be lore.

Fifth: Crafts done right. Crafts should be hard, and not be achieved in a day, but at the same time, I hate when the crafting system is tedious. By that I mean where it takes craft upon craft upon craft to get the new craft. I'm fine with mayby tier 2 crafts max for a craft, but I think the rest should be through hard to obtain ingredients. I also prefer it when ingredients make some merit of logical sense, rather than something like: peasent suit and fox furs for small sword. How do you make a sword from cloth and furs? I'm fine with it if servers don't have proper items that make sense for the craft, but when they do...then actually use it.

Sixth: An arena. I'm fine with crafts for winning arena, as long as it's statless, and purely for looks. For the most part I arena for fun, but it's always nice to get something extra out of it. I'd honestly rather have this rather than arena events, just because of the sheer fact that I break those. Admittingly though, it's always fun to see: No don't pick arena event, demon is on :). While I don't think most people see it, I consider arena strategic, and it's always nice to have something to do on the side when you get bored training/item hunting.

I think that covers most of my opinions of what an excellent server needs for the most part. I would of added in a good community as well, but that's not always something you can control. You'll always have people bypassing bans and causing drama for everyone else, but that's just something you learn to deal with.

Edited to fix a typo I caught. (Perhaps I typed it up too quickly...caught two more typos).

Edit 2: I forgot to mention this, but I'd say it's obvious I don't support all admin/speed servers. You'll always have autoers, but with active admins to catch them, those can always be dealt with.

Edit 3: I knew I forgot something. I prefer servers with medium/large maps where there is actually room to explore. I also encourage adding secret areas /utilizing false walls in pro ways, so that I can't just abuse minimap to find everything. I also support chests, but not for valuable items, otherwise people will just camp/hoard the item.
