You will need the basics...
Paint.exe (i just use gale.exe) {paint.net... well i plainly don't like it}
Res-hacker.exe (Resource hacker)
Save the current gfx with res-hacker, edit them with paint/gale/other then use res-hacker to once again replace the current ones
