Add wine ppa and install newest one. It works very nice on it.

I would suggest the same as Bart did. It's worked fine for me using development (now stable release) version of wine. I use CrossOver Linux now which uses wine and I don't have any trouble.

Assuming you're using gnome...

Select the menu: System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager
Use the "Quick Search" box on the tool bar to find "Wine"
Select "Wine" from the software list and click "Apply"
Download the (.exe) Installer from endless-online.com and run.

I suggest you do this before installing wine: http://www.winehq.org/download/deb It will allow you to have the latest version instead of what Ubuntu has in their repository.

You've followed added the repo, ran sudo apt-get update, and then sudo apt-get upgrade or sudo apt-get install wine1.2?

You could just wait until Bart finishes his project.

I had problems running EO in wine. I think it was DirectX. Mucked up grahpics and such.

Was this a while ago? The old stable version did this but the stable version now (development then) works great.
