So, the company who makes the parts apple uses even stated that apple knew it would fuck up the device and that its the one design they tell everyone not to use. As we all know Apple has been in some financial troubles lately. Is this having to buy a case on top of the phone thing a way to boost profits?

Apple hasn't had any financial trouble since 1996.

Cases are free until September 30th and still possibly pending an extended date. This extends to several case vendors, not just Apple's Bumpers.

Even without the cases, the phone works fine. Everyone I meet with an iPhone 4 thinks it works fine, they don't understand the hype around the issue. I've been able to reproduce the same issue on a magnitude of phones other than the iPhone, but like the iPhone they all still work fine if you try to actually use them. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Cases are free till 30th. not covering anyone who buys the phone after that.

Phone works great if you follow there "Guide" to holding it, lol

and your right, Microsoft investing 150 million to save his ass isn't considered financial trouble. (due to contrary belief it wasn't a ploy to avoid a law suite)

PS: anyone see steve jobs offered to give a large percentage of the iphone sales to help BP with the leak? Personally I think it is his ploy to win everyone back over, but even so the BP rep basically said "Fuck You" in response.

Apple was in financial trouble. In 1996. Microsoft invested 150 million in return for non-voting shares (in that Microsoft could never have a say in how the company was run) and committed to the Mac for the next 5 years. The deal ended in 2003 and by the time it had ended, Apple had already recovered financially and were on their way to growth. By 2010 their market capital has topped Microsoft's and they're still growing at a steady pace. Part of the signed agreement to the deal was that Apple and Microsoft would collaborate on certain projects effectively settling a lawsuit in which Microsoft was being sued for violation of Apple's user interface patents.

The Steve Jobs ploy to BP was a joke created by bloggers.

Having a look at the phone up close it doesn't appear to have any signal attenuation if the carrier signal is strong enough. So on a carrier like mine (Vodafone AU) in my area, i'll see some attenuation. In the city, no attenuation. In the country, attenuation but the call will remain connected. On a national covered carrier like Telstra, the phone would work anywhere. Personally I don't care if it attenuates, just as long as the call remains connected. I'm not sure how it would perform on AT&T.

It actually performs fine on AT&T, i haven't had any issues that are newly introduced from my old phone. Same as what you said above for the other networks.

Reading some of the comments here i am really confused is it my phone having those signal issues with defective hardware or is it my element casing which is causing trouble in signal reception. Few mnths back i bought a new white iphone 4 along with it i bought few element iphone 4 cases for both my phone as well as my wife's itouch to protect them however after using it i started facing lots of signal issues (reception getting dropped by 2 bars and regaining 3 after removing it).

Even I tried opening up a portion by the antenna but it didn't work for me. I am still facing same probs without using that case moreover people have started telling me I am cutting in and out, and I am dropping calls more frequently.
