Signatures aren't disabled just because of advertising. They are also disabled because retards don't understand that nobody wants to see an 800x600 animated images of some unrelated crap under everyone's post. If people knew how to use signatures properly then I'm sure they'd come back.
At one point I was going to make a point of -1'ing every post that was smaller than the signature attached to the bottom of it. It's just so annoying to have a one line post and then half a screen of some crappy image that nobody wants to see.

Why not just stop images in sigs. Text only.

Yeah, text only is good, not image and not aimage(ASCII)

Text only, 3-5 line maximum. Probably one of the best compromises you can make as far as signatures go.
