How do you host your server?
Computer from home, VPS, or Dedicated Server?
If one of the latter, what company? Are they any good?
Describe any problems you have related to hosting it. (I am not referring to setup or portforward problems.)

Re: How do you host your server?
I can help with port forwarding, Although I wont, cause this isn't port forward.com its EOSERV.net!
I'd also say, I'd like to gather all setup guides and make a topic. That would clear up some of them useless topics.
Oh and did I ever say I frigging love lounge, this forum should have much more people now.
I hope so, it would be a great community, with the loving; Sordie(L) and Scott(L) to take out the trash.

That really has nothing to do with my question... Nor did you answer a single part of it. =/

Re: How do you host your server?
Oh Sorry Scott.
Well..
I Host my own server,
I don't get to many problems, But I do find hosting your own server gets annoying when it goes down, Or you have a sibling, and he/she uses your computer and shuts down the server (not/knowing) what it is but doesn't care.
Good thing is, You get easy access, you don't need to worry about getting screwed over, you know your server will always be up.
You can add/remove anything. I do recommend hosting your server.
Hope, I said you you want.

Re: How do you host your server?
I use a VPS service by VPSLand.com. I have never experienced any sort of problem with their services, other then the fact that they rarely perform maintenance (and when they do, they don't bother sending any sort of notification to expect it).
Personally, having once hosted my server myself, I very much prefer the VPS, although since my laptop still hosts a fileserver, it's rather pointless to own one.

Re: How do you host your server?
When I ran servers I used my old laptop to host them. I also run an Apache based web server with PHP on my old laptop (thats still there).
The issues I had were a lot of times socket binding problems where eoserv would think there was another application running with port 8078. Since i had a batch file auto-restart it, it would put it in an infinite loop of fail. And I wouldn't notice for a while. When I finally tried to access the
website and it took 600 years to load a web page, i knew something was up.
So I would try to remote desktop to my webserver/eoserver etc. and it wouldn't be able to connect because the entire processing capacity was being used by the auto-restart batch file. So then i had to manually log in to the machine and shut it down and whatever to fix it. Eventually i just had
the batch file issue a ping 127.0.0.1 so that it wouldn't restart the server too fast.
Anyways, thats my only story relating to private hosting of eoserv :P

Re: How do you host your server?
I'm running my test server on my home pc. I haven't got it running 24/7 because it's still test. I don't care about uptime. When I will finish it I will probably get something that will work 24/7.

Re: How do you host your server?
My host: A dedi in my dad's office.
Problems: None so far. Internet bill is still the same as it was before, but then again, we DO get a discount anyway for dad working with the company regularly. During the time I hosted, before I shut it down due to my admins moving to Tsukinoryoko and other servers, It was rarely ever offline,
perhaps maybe 2 hours a week for maintenance to the computer itself.

It would probably be cheaper to get a VPS. Assuming you're getting charged for bandwidth usage.

so it pays itself off.
