UPDATE: Seose v0.1 (release 9) - Back to sanity.
Author Message
Post #3243 UPDATE: Seose v0.1 (release 9) - Back to sanity.

Don't know if anyone is interested. I have a very very early version of my server emulator available on my website.

I decided to go with Delphi to make it easier for the err.. less experienced person to modify the source code. I did even think about BASIC at one point but I lol'd so hard.. then I cried a bit, then I lol'd again. =P Pascal is the happy medium between C and BASIC me thinks.

(Sorry sausage if you don't want me posting this here)

=D Yeah. Mines only a few days old and as such doesn't really do much yet.
All I have working is:
- The server core.
- Really basic XML database support.
- Account creation, login and password changing.
- Character creation.
- Basic loading of the data files.

That's all I'm upto right now. It's early days.

Um yeah I know.. It does say this on the first line of the "comming next/bugs" list on my website. Thats as far as I have got.

Holy hell! A few days old and people are expecting a fully working server. You're just like my bosses!

Maybe I should have held back or password protected the binary download like the source until a much later version.

Totally unrelated to your topic(well to a point..) but I seriously like the style of your website layout.. and the two random sketches.

I also think it doesn't matter if you password protect the binary or not :P eventually you'll get people going "What the password???", of course you're not obligated to answer them but I could see it being annoying in the future.

=S It was a naive attempt at preventing stupid questions but you're right. I've now removed the password on the source download.

PS: Thanks for your comments about the site. It's really basic HTML though. Those sketches arn't drawn by me. Modesty (and lack of tallent) would prevent me from drawing myself so well. I have a friend that likes to draw me in.. err.. "different" poses. =D

hmm, I don't think it was naive, maybe you could make the password "http://sordie.co.cc" so that people will know for the most part what site to get the latest official revision. that's just my thoughts on it though, heh. and you could always just list a dump email for all questions relating to it(and then never check it)

Post #3309 Re: Stupidly early version available.

=P Well both the username and password were both "developer". hehe =D

Anyhoo, I just made version 0.1.5 available to download. Yes, you can now actually login and walk about. I'm catching up on ya Sausage! =P ... Talking of which, am I OK to post about Seose on a forum about Eoserv? I'm pretty useless at web development and it would take me half an aeon to get my own forum up an running =S

Post #3336 Re: Stupidly early version available.

I personally don't care if you talk about it/make a topic for it.

I'd say just edit your first post of this topic and edit it whenever you decide to crank out a new version, and it should be fine(I actually don't care if you make a new topic or anything, whatever is your personal preference(but if you crank out a new version along with a new topic I might get annoyed(not really)))

Coincidence! I used to teach an Object Pascal evening class. =D
Thanks for the offer. It's been a while since I used Pascal seriously but I think I'm going to keep myself as the only developer. It's much easier to handle small projects that way.

And while I'm here.. Release 6 is out! See my its crappy little web page for details! =P
