Okay way to be completely off-topic but anyway...

The official editing tools that Apollo has don't work with the latest EO data files. They're also extremely annoying to work with. EOMap definitely wins for whipping out maps quickly.

I have no intention of posting the official EO server software (though someone probably will eventually) since that would be pretty illegal, either way, it's useless to 99% of people since it:

  • needs to be cracked to run (it requires a serial number generated for your PC)
  • is completely uncustomizable without its source code (it has 46 config options, only about half of them affect the game)
  • is actually really shitty and a pain to set up compared to EOSERV (ODBC? really??)

the only thing good about having the original server files is you can see all the quests and all the maps over the years i will be releasing all the quests in the official server format for those who wish to convert as well as all the maps from the main server files


and everything sausage said about the main server files is true, when i saw odbc i was like, are u fkin kidding me although i guess for hosting ur database away from the server its kind of nifty?


and i could've sworn AW dropped more than 1k small pots? i could be wrong

ODBC would have been used because the server software was written in Borland C++ Builder (The same RAD as Delphi, using the same components). ODBC was Borlands "out of the box" database interface so it was just a case of dropping the component on your form, setting a few properties and you are good to go.

Fun fact. ODBC was considered when Seose was in development but the idea of using a packaged database was dropped to keep the whole "any idiot can use it" policy. =D
