I don't normally do this but it's gotten to the point that it's really annoying the bejesus out of me. I understand that not everyone is a pixel artist, but does that give them the right to go into other people's servers and take their gfx? Have some decency...

Adventures Online and Epic Class wars, one more popular than the other, has gfx that I've made and which can only be rightfully used by Ele and myself. I don't know if pixel artists hired by the server itself claimed my stuff to be theirs, but it's just not right. It hurts me a little seeing things like this happen. 

There's really nothing i can do to stop this. So this is my rant to those people, and the others, that have been doing this, and to many other artists, over time. STOP TAKING MY SH*T

Since you're having sort of business with Elevations. Perhaps you could ask him to compress your gfx files since FE itself has their gfx files compressed. I also feel where you're coming from so I hope this somehow solves your problem

Funny I was just talking about this... It's a shame that these servers even have somewhat of a playerbase. You should be ashamed. You really ruin your reputation and the reputation of your server by stealing others graphics. Don't think you can get away scott-free. You'll piss the wrong person off one day and your server will barely see the light of day..

@Yukio- Hiuru doesn't need to ask anyone to compress his files he can do it himself?! This however will not stop those persistent bastards use a certain program that I shall not name.

I don't think that will work since you can easily uncompress them.

Description about it:

"This project will remove ALL "security"/compression from the gfx files, and even make the files a bit smaller (enough to consider recompiling your files). In addition, extracting them may give you an easy/quick view of all your files and a way to keep a bit organized if you're pixelist."

Indeed, although you can't avoid to have your graphics stolen since there are ways to decompress gfx files too, it could lessen the rate of stealing graphics from servers to servers. Since not all server owner knows how to compress and decompress gfx files.

Since It's Elevations, I believe if he does the trick, It would be hard to decompress AO's gfx files.

Edit: Since, elevations was a part of that project, I believe he wouldn't allow that kind of program to decompress FE's gfx.

P.S. Although I normally don't pay attention to +1s or -1s now. I was trying to help and I got -1, like what hiuru said, these community is getting irritating.

I agree. The only reasonable punishment for art-stealing servers would be blacklisting them. However it could ugly when trying to prove who stole what, unless its known pixels from popular servers. 

Either way something needs to be done

To be honest, it would'nt be that hard to prove your artwork in particular, this might come off as a broad statement but, your art is very distinctive by your dithering style any schmuck trying to claim it as their own wouldnt get very far.

This drives me crazy as well, sense I see these servers rolling in hundreds of dollars too if you read there, "Money Count" section. Therefore they're making money from the stolen graphics and the random and easy server which most likely makes no sense when you're in it. I don't see why servers like Aureus Online does not have more players then these knock offs when it is the original, and much better in my eyes. I agree for the black listing part, and as for the confirming it's your artwork all you would have to do from now on is save the outlines of the items and then just water mark your name on it to prove it when someone tries to steal it. (imo)

People rip Blu-Ray and DVD movies regardless of the security features, do you really believe that anyone compressing EO gfx can really stop it from being extracted? I wouldn't worry about lazy people. I mean really, EO has plenty enough graphics to get a server started. What a lot of the new servers are doing is ripping the graphics out of other servers and plugging them into their own. If you are a pixel artist, sue the fuck out of them. Make up some charge per bitmap and get legal advice. At the very least their site and fileshare will suspend their services for up to 10 days pending action. Probably overkill for a server that will average 5-10 players because most of those guys only operate for about 3 months. 

For all of those guys ripping the works of others, stop being so fucking lazy. You need to use the free resources you have and make a server first. For example, Gem Soldiers has a bunch of shit ripped from other servers. They even went so far as to copy the Fallen Evolution rules straight from the FE site without even changing the names Elevations and Fallen Evolution as they are referenced at various places. If you are that damn lazy don't look for players. Do you think players that play various servers won't notice? Your friends might play or be admin for you, but the average player will notice you are using work from other servers as a gimmick to populate your own server. When I started EE, players joined because I was constantly coding ahead of the official build of EOSERV and making things work that other servers were months behind me adding. The first real competition came from Fallen Evolution. Players were attracted to that server for new and unique graphics that made the game feel like something different than EO. Point is, if you do your own work you might be around over 4 years later with a decent product, if not don't expect to look like anything more than a lazy jackass lacking the ambition to actually produce something players will enjoy because you have set yourself up for failure.

Compressing wont do anything because the client still has to access them. You can decompress them with a decompressor or you can just easily write a program to load the PE resources and just write them to an image file. Hence EOGFX.

 

People really shouldn't steal work though, its just pathetic.

Isn't this hypocrisy?

We're all using Vult-rs and Arvids work without permission (stealing), and we complain about others stealing our work..

I never gave a fk if people steal my gfx.. It's not about the gfx.. If your game sucks, it sucks, gfx isn't gonna change anything.. And do you think these kids who steal your gfx can compete with you just because they have your gfx? I doubt it. It's obvious how unprofessional they are. Just let the kids have fun with their servers, it's not like they will ever challenge the original.

Even if the server grows more popular than yours (chances are so low), it's your work being used, so you can see plenty of people enjoying your work :)

Don't stress, it's just a hobby :)
