Post #190712 Night/day effect in EO

I haven't been busy with EO lately but i was bored so i worked a bit on my  EO related engine. Tried to add a night effect, opinions are welcome. (don't look at the GUI it's just for now and since this project isn't serious for now i haven't bothered to find an artist.)

looks good clive.

i do not know how your overlapping them.
are you overlapping the whole map with that shadow effect?
i only asking because i been working on a project myself and was wondering what is the best way to do this."before i get to this point"
"aoe" and changing the view"range" server side to players for the day or night effect. or trying for map area's and  trans png/bitmap color/alpha blend on lamp post areas,
yes i said alpha blend..... figured i would try the Pascal/Delphi way. took me a whole two seconds to say "wtf" and see why vults sprite sheet area was so small.

looks good. hope to see you keep picking at your project.

+1

actually it's a transparant layer than i draw a black "light" at the spot where i want to have it and with a blender option  i draw it inverted so the black goes transparant and the layer goes black/blue so i can add as many lights as i want without overlapping, i'm going to code it different though so it looks more natural. anyway i hope you understand what i'm trying to say since my english is poor haha.

It would look better to add a transparent blue to the entire map including the character avatar and use the lighting effect for things like torches and lamp posts. Black is such an ugly night effect. I think you will like the result better when using blue.

I don't know, I feel a nice dark sepia tone would fit better just because black, even that of blue is too dark.

I really like this idea, but it would be cool if it was set too real time. So if it is turning midnight at whatever time the server is set at than it will slowly turn darker and darker.

But different countries would have different experiences like dark all the time or light all the time. EO days should be 3 in game days per 1 day inrl

That would make night and day last too long :P

I would also make it possible to turn off the day/night system just in case it ever gets annoying

That's actually an excellent idea, Standard. Would be really cool to see that implemented.

Ive never played WoW but i'd hate to play a server in darkness for the full duration xD It would be cool if certain monsters spawned at night!
