| I have 8 GB RAM, 3.00 GHZ proccessor, a rating of 4.5, I have about 970 GB of memory left, and 64 bit operating system. This computer is like a year old I don't understand why it slows down so much on games even though it's on the lowest graphics possible. --- â•”â•â•â•â•— ♪ Get chance and luck ║███║ ♫ â•‘ (â—) ♫ â•šâ•â•â•â•â™ªâ™ª

Re: Game speed up
| Hey guys I found a great website here to tell you which games you can run and which part of your computer you need to upgrade to play! http://www.systemrequirementslab.com Apparently the reason my computer fails at 3D games is the damned video card. Now I know to ******* buy a new one xD It also tells you the recommended performance and links you to some recommended drivers & stuff that you can buy. This thing solved my problems. And you can go on the Microsoft forums to find something that works 0-0

Long story short they run fine. Got to agree with brotard though with defrag, cleaning history, etc. --- Former multi-server mapper.

| Hey, I'm using Defragler and it estimates that it will take about less than a day to defrag... should I keep my computer on for a whole day just to defrag (can I stop it THEN start it like... the next day)? Also, what does defraging do for your computer? Speeds it up?

Re: Game speed up
| Basically it compacts files to make more room, makes it easier to access some files, moves files around so they run better. It's not necessarily needed to be done, but it should be done every 6 months to a year just to speed up the computer a bit more. And callum beat me to it. --- Former multi-server mapper.

Re: Game speed up
| Misca posted: (24th Mar 2013, 03:12 am) It doesn't make more room. Just "rearranges" stuff like everyone else said so that files are contiguous and aren't half located somewhere and half located somewhere else. Pin, first of all let me know if you want me to walk you through removing unnecessary processes in your computer. A clean windows xp runs on 16 processes and a clean windows 7 runs on 25 processes. If you have more than 30 processes running when you have no windows open then your computer has a lot of background updaters, crash report submitters and possibly malware that you aren't aware of. Secondly you said you have 8 gigs of ram. That's plenty. Also defragging wouldn't help in this situation unless the game constantly writes to and reads data files and log files. Because it's an online game it wouldn't store anything offline as that would be easily abused by hackers. Therefore it would only read on startup and store 60-80% of the program in ram. Thirdly, check to see if the game starts out fast then starts lagging. If so what could be happening is that your graphics card goes into near or full load and starts overheating so the BIOS/MoBo automatically lower the frequency so it stops overheating. Same could happen to the cpu. Download HWMonitor to monitor your temperatures. If you have diffuculty identifying what the names point to let me know. Most intel CPUs can withstand temperatures up to 60-80 degrees C, some newer ones can go up to 100. Download Process Explorer to monitor the cpu usage and the gpu usage to see how much your processors are being stressed out. -Alex --- I not hacker “Everybody is a genius.
