Quite a number of private servers have popped up recently and I can't say that I am impressed with many of them. For the majority, I don't even get past glancing at them on the server list.
The deciding factors for me to even consider trying a new server are the following:
- Server name - It doesn't have to be too creative as long as it uses proper grammar. I will not play on a server called "itunes pk server hiring".
- Website - I'd expect the server to at least have a simple, informative website and not just lead to a download link.
- Advertisement topic - These are almost always good to have and may even excuse the absence of a website.
Seriously, if a server isn't even going to offer me the bare minimum, I'll have to question whether it is worth following through with trying the game. Of course there are plenty more things to cause disappointment in the actual game but that isn't a problem until you have players willing to
play first.
I am by no means an expert on server management. I just hope that server owners realise how crucial first impressions are to potential players and take some suggestions on board.
BTW there are a couple servers that I am looking forward to, so don't think I can never be satisfied :P
