Post #186967 private servers don't cut it

Why is it so hard for someone to make a great private server that's enjoyable that even I can play for 2 weeks.... I have practically tried every server but they never kept me on that much.... every server is missing too much of something. It should be fairly easy to create a good eo server because there is not too much work needed if you don't count programming and pixeling. Someone needs to make a good server for once...

And what exactly do you expect? A dead game with dead private servers. There's probably 500 or so people left who play across all servers and at once maybe 200 max. So sorry that no one made a server just for you.

I coded, mapped, quested, and made pretty much everything on my server myself besides the pixels just to make sure everything on my server pieced together well and didn't look like 10 different ideas thrown all together and still got a low amount of players. I even moded it by myself for the first few days which was stressful as hell. @_@ Misca is right, there just isn't much point in putting effort into a server people won't even notice in the first place. Most people stick to the top servers they've played on more these days.

I find Endless Online has a very small footprint in the MMO world, most players stumble across it while looking for a new game to play, so that is likely why the private servers for this game have an even smaller footprint.

In my opinion regardless of content, population is crucial to a good MMO as the economy and player interaction changes dramatically as a consequence of low or high populations.

I'm guessing the populated servers do well mainly as they have a population already and have been established for a long time with solid and consistent up time.

The 100-200 players that currently play private servers could all advertise and grow into 1000 or 10,000 players quite easily given the right motivation, which isn't currently there.

Things I would recommend to all server owners: (I won't be posting any links to sites as that may violate some rules but just google for the info you need it's all there.)

Put your server on all the top 100 mmorpg voting sites, there is literally tons of them, some of them have recently added Endless Online section per request from some of us server owners. Make a quality add and / or banner to help draw the eye to your server. Encourage your users to vote for some form of reward.

Word of mouth is always worth it, players like staff that will come and talk to them, let them know they have your support and you may find you have theirs also.

Youtube and social media - the more videos, facebook pages, likes, votes or what ever the site uses helps alot to bring in new users, blogs and tweets can be effective also.

Competitions for Donations, host competitions on your servers to increase the population, make the goal something that will benefit the server growth and the reward can be as simple as a free donation to the winning users, and example of this is a Youtube video competition.

If you are really keen make cards with your game logo and information on it make sure the card mentions that its free to play and hand them out in a populated place. :)

Buy a domain name, you can purchase a domain name from as little as $1.00 even if you aren't going to make a proper website and continue using your .webs etc you can forward your new domain name to that and make it replace the address in the top browser from .webs to your own .com etc.

Make a server advertisement on every public forum that you are allowed to, most private server forums like ragezone etc have a section specifically for this and have many thousands more users than we do.

There is almost 7 billion people on earth I'm sure we can attract more than 100-200 if we collaborate and grow as an EO community, I would like to see more than 50 players on every server, but that's never going to happen without loads of motivated people making the effort to expand.

Post #186978 Re: private servers don't cut it

Nice post SOB(john) doing pretty much all of that myself bar handing out cards,I don't get out much really anymore thanks to my social anxiety issues.

On-topic -Yeah I am noticing that with my server presently .We have a lot to offer similar to the the top three, pets, mining, fishing and woodcutting and 54 maps to explore (updated daily, and modded whenever we notice someone is logged in )but its hard to keep players even if they are enjoying it if there is no other players online with them at the same time to interact with.

I wish there was a way for us to gain completely new EO players, but we are in a niche genre already.2d mmorpgs ,are minimal in amount when compared to the vast amount of free to play 3d ones like Runescape Cabal and Dc universe etc. (just a few that grab my attention more than some others).

Finally I have a Youtube channel that I've made a playlist of around 35 eo based adverts and videos and parody's(some of the wickedfrosts videos are in it). Some fond memories of awesome servers that lasted for along time but inevitably died pretty much the same as most servers do.

Anyway here's the link for the channel http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeAu11Iu3bmEEyzzxJIdbHy3ywExAZE80 please comment and subscribe to my channel and also any of the videos in the playlist that you enjoy. hope this helps you see a few good servers to try out or reminisce about

I'm hoping the channel will get a lot of the eoserv community sharing it with family and friends on there own channels or social networks,to gain more awareness of the EO servers community.

Hope this helps all of you out especially animation. Will be posting  a separate thread about my youtube channel when I have added some other playlists other than EO ones.

@animation

i feel the same, eo is boring now like no matter what i play if its eomain or EE or FE or BU its fucking BORING!

i miss the old Eo where u could cheat, hack, speed, and auto. >_> i miss the old eo where making a guild felt like it mattered. i miss gossiping in staff shop, and i miss the scammers and newbs.

one of the best parts of EO was finding ways to fuck with the game and admins, cant do that on pserves xD

Yeah Ryou,

Your server is great but you like to make your maps very large. It would need atleast 50 players to be fun to play or if there were groups of 5 working together. I think people just get bored of walking everywhere especially when they die! Once again a great server just missing that little piece. I think enabling register in any town would just work :D

Post #187008 Re: private servers don't cut it

Nobody makes a private server just for one person to play. They make a server they think would be brilliant, and eventually it will change over time, because they will listen to their players and get their opinions. Well, at least thats what I would do. How long have you actually spent on one server? 5 minutes? If you entered the server and played for at least 3 days, then you have an excuse/argument and say that the server is bad. Otherwise, your argument is invalid.

@Moonie EE/FE/BU aren't boring when you play them right. They're games based on merching, crafting, training AND hanging around. If you just do one, then it will be the most boring game you've ever played, and just quit. Take Minecraft for example. If you watch someone play it, it looks like the most boring game ever. But when you play it, and you build stuff, it gets interesting because you keep building until everything is perfect.. but even then, you still start to build more, to increase it.

A lot of people complain when it comes to servers, saying that they're too hard, everything should be easier to do, etc.
Truth is, the harder the game, the better it is. Look at main. that was easy as shit, but people still left it.

dude i know what im talking about.

i was a admin on bu, it was boringgggg so i quit. I played EE for a yr or 2 got an elite and quit. Fe got promoted to player helper then quit. the only intresting part about Eo is the drama that goes with it.

Post #187023 Re: private servers don't cut it

I have to disagree on what moonie said...I don't miss the cheats at all. Anyone who's played eo before cheats even existed can vouch that cheats are what destroyed eo (well, they are at least one of the factors). I know every inch of eo because I played it for years legit (I had a level 20 with dark blade while dark blade was actually rare.) Granted I did get the level 20 after hh was out. Even I wasn't a full time arena player at one point. Anyways the point I'm trying to make is that if there were more players who truly cared about eo then yeah it could be a great game. The problem is what the eo community has become. We have a small minority of us who care about eo (even I've been losing faith) while the rest of the people are out to utterly destroy it. I'll never let my arena legend die despite how few people who are that still play it...but in terms of gameplay, I'm still waiting to see a server that can draw me in.

Sorry if this is worded a bit poorly, I was trying to get my thoughts straight as I typed. I'll leave my ending note as fucking with the game =/= playing the game. Sorry moonie, it's just I strongly disagree with what you said.
