| ![]() Personally, I like Ubuntu. It's very easy, very user friendly whilest still giving you freedom to do whatever you would normally do on a "true" linux build as linux veterans like to call them, like arch or w/e idek. But yeah Ubuntu does apparently tie you down in some areas but generally I prefer it a lot to windows. Unix is a nice environment compared to dos, so yeah, my vote goes to ubuntu (10.10 is my fav) --- If money doesn't grow on trees, then why do banks have branches?

| ![]() Well, you've tried out a couple of them so i'm going to take your word and assume you know how to use Linux. I would suggest installing Ubuntu if you're going to use it on the regular bases. It's true, Mint did get a lot of hype for their new Cinnamon interface, etc. but, i would personally never use Mint. Arch on the other hand is a bit unsupported like you stated but it's still really good. I've never had any problems with it. I would suggest picking a distro that fits you well, and does what you need it to do. (Don't be one of those idiots that picks one over the other because it looks "cooler".) Pick something that you know you're going to be satisfied with. As for my suggestions: Ubuntu - Most user-friendly distro out there. Very recommended. Mint - Lot of hype for now, who knows how long it's going to last. Try it out if you want. I wouldn't use it though. Fedora - Nice interface, definitely a quality distro. Very nice GNOME 3 environment. Arch - It's lightweight, good documentation, user has a lot of control over the system (main reason why i love it). Another quality distro. It's also really good for hacking lol. Debian - Foundation for many other distros. Stability is better than Ubuntu. Great for desktops, laptops, and servers. After reading all of this, i hope you make the right choice. Don't just go with what's popular. --- ... |
