Windows 7&8 on my torrent list. Which to give more priority?
So yeah, bored. Put together a desktop, gonna play with OSes till I find which is right for me. 8 is just for giggles, but I might turn around and like it (very slim possibility).
So, how many fellas have a flavor of Linux installed? What's good these days?
Edit: Desktop is 2.6Ghz Pentium 4. 768MB ram. Popped Windows Vista Eval on it, seems to run Aero interface just fine. Should run Aero on Win 7, right?

Ams pretty? Windows 7 on my laptop. ---

Cancel Windows 8.
Try Win 7 or Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

Re: Windows 7&8 on my torrent list. Which to give more priority?
I personally wouldn't go for Windows 8. I tried out the developers preview a while back and i didn't like it.
The whole dashboard thing just killed it. I'm currently dual-booting Win 7 & Arch Linux.
There are a bunch of good distros out there but the few that i think are good are:
- Ubuntu (Obviously)
- Backtrack
- Arch Linux
- Mint
- Fedora
They are all pretty light weight and don't need much to run. Anyways, if i were you i would try out Windows 8 for myself.
There are a lot of opinions floating around and until you try it yourself you won't see which is right. Hope this helped. ---

Doug: Never heard of the desktops MATE and Cinnamon. 0_o
Haze: Tried Win 8 Developer. Sucked, as you suggested.
Edit: Hahaha, oh crap. Found my Release Preview. *prioritizes Win 7*

I agree with Doug, Mint 13 has gotten a lot of buzz lately.
Apparently it's "the best one, yet". I suggest you try it out alongside with Ubuntu.
If you are new to Linux, don't bother with Arch Linux or Red Hat. You're best bet would probably be Ubuntu. ---

I'm not new to Linux, and I agree Ubuntu has stepped up their game aesthetically, but has decreased their chances of reaching older machines. I personally adored the fuck out of Suse Linux, my attempt to burn the latest version last time failed though, so I got frightened away. xD
P.S. Red Hat was my first distro. ---

I agree, but older versions of Ubuntu are still available at their website.
Anyways, Windows 7 is your all around best bet. I would personally still go with XP but it is a bit outdated. ---

Windows XP is still a good choice. I'll probably go with that later on to make it a gaming machine. ---
