IT'S NOT THERE TO RATE YOUR LITTLE BUDDIES UP/DOWN AND SHAKE IT ALL AROUND. THERE'S A REASON IT'S LIMITED WITH A SLOW REGEN RATE.

If you haven't noticed, OP's rating is located right before the thread when viewing the various sections. It's there to point out what's hot and what's not, what's worth opening, what's worth ignoring...

So, to wrap this up, remember that Karma or "KP" is ment to be used on genuine quality POSTS, or blatantly stupid/trollish POSTS (when dealing with negative ratings), NOT USERS.

Some user made a bad post in the past? Big deal, grow up, get over it. There is no need to continue negatively rating that user. Why? POSTS, NOT USERS.

Well said, but the problem is 60 percent of the users just look at the activity log rather then opening up the "lounge" and or any other section.. so most people miss the -/+ rating of a thread. Which in my opinion is one reason threads get trolled so hard, because people expect it to be oh so amazing since its popping up over and over in the recent post list.

In my opinion the -'s is just the rating system's flaw. By removing the -'s you would still have the same system as before, but you wont get as much hatred from a person, because they think a certain person -'d them. Or you wont get the occasional posts that go I -'d you. If you just had the +'s it would be the same except it would remove the trolling and abuse of the rating system. Also like you said you look through and a topic and it has 3-'s it is no different from it having no -'s since they would be removed and the topics with 3+'s would be the one worth checking out.

Not sure if you know what I mean.

I get what your saying and it makes perfect sense, but the -'s are supposed to show how useless a topic is and detour people from posting such trash.

The biggest flaw is the age/maturity of most users they hold a grudge? they'll minus you.If you're their bud you a get plus just for that.Karma should be pointed by post quality maybe a rank which allows certain users who abuse this could help the -/+ s that get handed out for just the hell of it?

Exactly what I'm talking about. The system used to be just moderators commenting on posts, but it evolved into a user rating system, which has been abused ever since.

Plasmastar. I applaud you for this post. People will like someones post No matter how silly or pointless the post is.. as long as they like you. No matter how good the post is, people will downrate you if they don't like you. That's why the karma system is a joke.

What would be a good idea, is to only make plus/minus for the actual post, not for users that are commenting in posts.

I would suggest a ranking system where high quality posters get the privilege to hand out karma points or minus a user. It mite be high hopes but I'm sure it would make this karma system less hated by a lot of this community and more controllable.

That sounds decent. It might actually work if it was turned into an economy like system, and a select few is allowed an allowance each day/week. They could give people karma for good posts, and the good posters could rate others. So forth and so forth.

If you ask me, Sausage should put a side bar next to the recent action list saying whether the person -1'd or +1'd any of the comments in the thread, as well as the total -1 or +1 of the main post. Would basically tell everyone who is the one going through each post -1'ing people.

Or could get rid of the whole karma thing in general. Best idea imo.

No disrespect to plasma and beware...but that would be a crappy ass idea. I think that the main moderators like sausage, Apollo and Desmond should hold karma power. I would feel much more comfortable knowing people who contributes to eoserv with most of their comments, rate me. Rather than some biased ass butthurt people fucking up peoples karma. @misca: I love that idea. Would find out which the haters are and why'd they down rate us.
