private servers nowadays

What's up with these servers nowadays. Why does every server have to have a storyline? Original Eo doesn't have a storyline at all. All it has is good items. Don't say "well private servers would be boring without one" because that would be false. This is not a game for Xbox or PlayStation. I was just wondering why it has to have one to be successful. My opinion is that all you really need is good maps, pixels, and friends who have friends and so on. What's your take on my question.

Otherwise its just main EO with new items, pixels, maps. Enough said. People left main because all it was was grind, grind, and grind some more just to see medusa get ganked by merlina in terms of exp/day.

Most private servers have a story line but hardly any actually stick to it. I'm not sure if i know of a server with a full main quest. 

I think a lot of players like knowing what the story is because it allows them to get deeper into the game and immerse themselves in it, plus some people like role-playing.

I would imagine there's a main quest/storyline because it gives the players something to do if they're bored. There are many servers (like BU) that doesn't have a storyline, yet gives you a lot to do, but the problem is that when there isn't enough people online, you're stuck. So essentially, you would resort to the main quest/ storyline. If you ask me the best way to have a server is to have all the factors of a good server, leave out the main quest/storyline and put in lots of side-quests. That way you'll never be bored.

@nurd: I agree with what you just said 100% Basically all a server need is a different feel to it from main. Main had the same maps,items, ect. It is still successful though to this day. Like I said all a server really needs to be successful are different pixels, different maps, a new configuration with alot of added things such as pets,harvesting, you get what I'm saying, and the biggest component which is friends whom know people and so on to build a steady player base. The storylines, to me, is getting a bit carried away. @misca: I forgot all about Medusa lol.

ya or if the server didnt have storylines/ quests then your basically hitting monsters and leveling up wow thats really fun notice the sarcasim

Sarcasm* that's why I said the server would need a steady player base. Look at main. No storyline but it has alot of players. Not saying that private servers should strive to be like eo main. All I'm saying it that we're missing a main component which is.......COMPETITION!! Alot of people work harder to be better than someone. If a server included everything I've just said including competition then the server will be a success. I'm just saying the many different ways of having a properly built server without a long drawn out storyline.

Personally, I'm tired of the sit and grind. Do I have any problem with servers/games implementing it? No, but when it comes down to it, it is either the people who:

A) Hack.

B) Have the money to buy items (Using real cash currency).

C) Beg to get Point B.

...who dominate everyone else because they can get the gear/items quicker meaning they can kill stuff quicker. If there were level ranges and item blocks on certain areas then I would be entirely fine with it. Basically what I mean is, you wouldn't be able to run into the starting area with the highest gear and ks everything for super fast exp. The gear would have to be locked to specific areas and the monsters would increase in difficulty as expected.


At the end of EO, I remember seeing people doing 150+ damage on vines, and vines gave the most exp yield per hour. Pretty sad when you can basically 4 shot a monster who gives the highest exp in the game.

i agree.. but in games there are always killjoys, and sometimes people want to be so much better than others that they use hacks and other shit, but they forget that its just a game which is kinda sad lol
there should be quests that keep you going trough the game and area blocks a game isnt a good game [in my opinion] until even a dumbass understands what he/she needs to do
