I have a suggestion, could you make the recent actions list toggle-able please? Just giving the div 'caption' a class or ID would be fine if it's only me that wants this XD

If you want to try disable it with css, .glist:nth-child(3) should work to select it

I would guess Compact mode is useful for mobile phones and such, so that there is more of a wideness differential. Looks pretty nice.

This works by forcefully removing the recent-actions, but unfortunately no amount of hacks I try will remove the large empty space. I even tried forcing a height limit on the body /facepalm.

#body has min-height:1060px; set which you can override (that's usually to make room for the sidebar and ad)

Not really. It still looks terrible on my smartphone.

Neat :P you should have it as a option or something on the bottom or top of the page so people can do that whenever and also disable it whenever :3
