Are you running any modifications to explorer.exe such as a custom windows theme? If so then I would suggest you restore the original explorer.exe which is hopefully backed up in the same folder :S

Check out this topic: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/there-are-multiple-instances-of-explorerexe/d4f28787-6208-4756-aa9d-96f7a6d34b7e

You should definitely go to http://www.techsupportforum.com/ as they are there to deal with issues with PCs and EOServ.net can't offer much support for things like this.

I hope you can fix it somehow.

A few things you should try:

  • System restore.
  • Run a full virus scan using a decent program.
  • Upload your explorer.exe to virustotal.com and click "reanalyze".
  • Run command prompt with admin privileges and type "sfc /scannow" press enter.
  • If all else fails you should probably reinstall your OS.. :(
Good luck.

Edited ^.

I've had the issue in the past also, it is some type of virus. When I tried to run scans I could never find it. Problem went away with a system restore as Klutz suggested in the post above.

I'am really not fond of system restore, but i guess i can pair with this problem as i didn't see any malfunction yet and the laptop run smoothly maybe a restart will solve the problem cause i didn't restart it for a while, also after i reapplied the thermal paste damn it feel so good the temp is less than 35 Co

Thanks Guys for suggestions

edit: now 8 explorer running :P

Could be a virus, true. But it could also be a simple setup thing.

Try this:

Open a folder (so you have an explorer window in the foreground).

Press and release the "Alt" key (a regular menu bar should appear)

Click "Tools" then "Folder Options"

Go to the"View" tab and look in the list for "Launch folder windows in a separate process"

Make sure it's unchecked

Anything taking up cpu you should not close, unless it is svchost (Shouldn't do this but its alright to do so).

The other ones, if you had the same error as me, if you close them, they will just pop back up a minute or two later.

Just take it to tech support man. They will tell you to make a memory dump, or log of some kind, and send it to them for diagnosis. You do likely have a virus ( probably fake windows shell), do a full scan with malewarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/ but I urge you to take it to the tech support guys.

That could have been leftover data from explorer.exe crashing, windows is known for that sort of thing.
