Opinion/Advice on a tablet for college?

Post #161705 Opinion/Advice on a tablet for college?

I'm looking to get a new tablet for college to use for all my textbooks, since I can get the ebooks for cheap. Any advice on what I should get? Currently I'm looking into the Nexus 7 16gb, iPad 3 16gb Wifi, and the Galaxy Note 10.1.

Nexus 7 16gb - $249 from Google

iPad 3 16gb WiFi - $499 from Apple

Galaxy Note 16gb - $499 from Samsung

Note: Don't be a fag and say "Apple sucks, don't get iShit", because I love my iPhone, my MacBook Pro, and all the iPods that I have owned, so I trust Apple products. Also I've used tons of iPads so I know they work as detailed.

I'm not the best at knowing what technology is the best but the nexus 7 sounds promising. Although Apple does provide good security. Not that it matters because most people jailbreak their products. Again, I'm far from being a technology guru here or anything. .-. Wait for sordie to reply. ;D

You could probably get either the iPad or the Galaxy since it's been legally ruled that they're virtually indistinguishable (no thanks to Apple's bullshit).

In all seriousness, if you're just using it for textbooks, you could probably save a lot of money by getting a kindle. I'd only recommend a real tablet as a replacement for a laptop.

I don't agree. Kindle is only limited to books, as for ipad you could use it for textbooks and entertainment/pleassure. So I suggest the ipad.

This. This is why I don't just dropp $100 on a kindle, especially since the Nexus 7 is only $199-$249, which is cheap considering it's a quad core Tegra 3 and could be used for several things, includesing Adobe PS Portable ;)

The Nexus 7 is a pretty nice tablet for the money but it has some annoying drawbacks:

1. No back facing camera.

2. No 3G support, you need WiFi access to use it.

3. No SD card slot. You have no way of adding more memory.

I'd go for an Asus Transformer Prime. Currently my favourite tablet. (also has the Tegra 3 CPU)

Pretty sure Kindle isn't limited to just ebooks...I've seen videos of people running other things on them.

If I EVER recommended a tablet that could replace a LAPTOP, it'd be the Asus Transformer Prime. From what I see, that thing is a beaut. I wouldn't go without the keyboard accessory though. That's what sets it apart from the others.

I have the TF201 and will probably upgrade to the TF301 soon. The ONLY one problem I have with it is the screen is way heavier than the keyboard. When docked it's very top heavy and tends to want to fall backwards. =S

Get the Asus transformer infinity....or the asus tf700t....its really nice for pretty much everything specially with the keyboard dock that nearly doubles your battery, adds a full qwerty keyboard, a track pad, and it fixes somewhat the weight distribution issue with previous transformers (only if u get the one made for the tf700t) that Sordie mentioned with her tf201t. I was in your position not too long ago and im glad i made this choice...i mean a beast of a quad core processor (with an extra power saving core), 1gb ram, full hd display of 1920x1200, 10.1" screen, a micro sdcard slot for upgradable hard drive, and 32gb of memory for just 499$....u cant go wrong lol. Since i have the keyboard, which has another sd card slot, i have a total of 96gb , give or take, of memory...plus the usb port that lets me plug in an exterior hard drive....its awesome!!!

The iPad 3 is nice too but i heard the retina display stuff takes a lot from those 16gb, giving u just around 10-12, give or take, of gb to actuallly work with.

EDIT: now why would someone minus rate me? lol rating system

If I was looking for a laptop replacement I'd probably get the Transformer Prime, also the fact that the Nexus doesn't have a rear camera means nothing to me, I won't ever use the camera on any tablet unless it was with my girlfriend, at which time It'd be a front facing camera :P And Plasma is correct to say the Kindle could do more than just ebooks since it can be rooted/reflashed to support a normal build of Android ICS(I believe its ICS...).

Anyways I decided to get an iPad 3, my aunt was looking to get a 64GB version so I bought her 32GB version from her for $300 at $50per month payments, which makes it an extremely easy purchase for me :P

Thanks for all the help everyone, really appreciate it.
