This may sound newby but my friends were on about making a minecraft server and i was wondering how. Is there a download on the minecraft website and you just download and add your codes etc like Eoserv? Or would you have to code your own game?

Google Bukkit, Bukkit allows you to add plugins which are extras for a server such as currency etc. (pretty much anything that's coded into a plugin) the standard software from minecraft is rather useless for adding things. x) If you know about java I'm sure you can figure out how plugins work (as I haven't really studied into it.) =)

i made an account on the forums but when i try and sign into the jenkins thing it doesn't work, I was watching a video and the person didn't need a password to get it off bukkit :l Does anyone have a clean Bukkit server that hasn't been changed?

If you are talking about ingame (you can get a password plugin if you want pirates on your server) but you can still set it to online mode to prevent that (which it's useful if all of your friends bought minecraft.) They made the password plugin so anyone cannot just access your ingame account. (but if you are talking about before you get in game you still need to have a account to log in.) Or a hacked client (which in no way do I support.)

Yeh I downloaded the recommended build, It was a Java file, When i ran it it started a program(i could only see in task manager) and it extracted loads of configs, But i didn't see any .exe's

Look in the forums for a starter kit, You need a batch file (can't exactly remember the contents of the batch file honestly.)

Minez is a good server to play.

It's pretty much a survival mod. It's actually really fun if you don't run into a ton of bandits or zombies :o
