Ontopic: Build your own is your best bet you can even take your time and only buy necessary parts and then slowly buy the rest, that's what i did and mine was roughly $550, and i can play Skyrim, BF3 on Ultra

my Build is AMD Based, i have a Nvidia 650ti 8gbs of Ram(G.Skill Sniper Series), 750 watt, two 2tb HDD and 1 tb solid state drive, my MOBO is a AsRock n68c-s ucc., theres a few other things as well but i dont wanna take it apart lol and Now you will have to find sales if you want it to cheap.

mine is a Quad but my mobo allows me to unlock the 6-8 core if available so mine is at 6 cores

since this is a topic about gaming laptops, in around 2 years, i'm thinking of getting myself a alienware m17x. Is it good for the price?

I suppose but its better to build a Desktop, one youll save money and have a better performance, with more space.
