Sleek & Slender.
Apparently there's a game called Slender out these days, I haven't played it myself, but it looks fairly interesting in a horrifying kind of way.
However, this is the last time that game will be mentioned in this thread from here on out.
I decided after purchasing my last laptop as a "refurbishment required" unit (which is a nice way of saying "needs major repairs") that I was tired of being screwed over by second-hand sellers and a new computer, hot off the assembly shop floor, was on the cards. At the time, the computer
specifications I wanted had not even existed yet, so it was a matter of waiting for Intel's roadmap to catch up with my expectations and enduring the use of my existing laptop, by this point overheating on an hourly basis, covered in duct tape and looking very Red Green (if you get the
reference).
In June this year, Intel finally released the hardware to the manufacturers, and my new computer was finally available for purchase, albeit at a fairly steep price, which I managed to reduce through some creative use of Apple channel staff pricing.

It's a MacBook Air (Mid 2012), configured with a Dual 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of DDR3 1600MHz Memory, a 512GB Solid State Drive and Intel's HD Graphics 4000 paired to a 13.3-inch 1440 x 900 display. It also features Dual USB 3.0 ports, an SD Card reader and Intel's Thunderbolt
I/O for rapid local data transfer. It has a built-in FaceTime HD camera and noise-cancelling microphone for audio/video conferencing. There is no CD/DVD drive, because I can't imagine ever needing one again. Everything else is handled wirelessly through my local 802.11n network. Battery life is 6
hours, sustained. It runs Apple's newest Mac OS X release, named "Mountain Lion".
It even has a Fiber-Optic Backlit Keyboard, which I didn't think was really important until I actually began to use the computer late at night. Now I can't imagine being without it.
I can't get over is how unbelievably thin it is. It's very sleek and very slender. (I hear a collective "ohh, so that's where the thread title came from) It's incredibly quiet too, with no moving storage and asymmetric fan blades it retains an almost inaudible tone even when at peak operation.
Heat output is minimal, which is nice, no more burn marks on my wrists.
What really blows you away though is the speed.

448.4MB/s read, 406.8MB/s write. Even my Seagate Momentus XT peaked at 90MB/s read, 50MB/s write, and that was considered a high performance hard drive.
It's not often that I can make this kind of purchase, and it took years of waiting for the technology to catch up, which allowed me to save a little on the side here and there. Although I had to convince myself that a new computer purchase was the right thing to do, I certainly haven't regretted
the purchase at all. I love it. Everything about it.

I believe iMic does not live with his parents, just a guess.
Lol, you made me sad because I wanted to post a picture to compare how "slender" the laptop is. @burn marks, IKR! I have em on my legs when I wear shorts :/ my laptop is like a valcano.

I work for AppleCare. My father on the other hand, doesn't. I've been on the shop floor for about 2 years and 2 months, and have about 1,200 repaired, remanufactured and speed-boosted Apple computers to my name. Had to purchase this one entirely myself. Don't really get any help from the family
these days (although I still live with some family members, but not all).
Heat output was one of the things that really irritated me about the last machine, and partly the reason I decided not to configure this machine with the optional Intel Core i7 processor. It's running at about 52C with a few applications open and I can barely feel any radiating heat so I'm
satisfied with it. The old machine would run at about 60C at idle, with all the heat radiating into the case, and that was after changing the thermal paste with a much higher grade material. Seems nothing could fix that old machine.

oh no... Applecare recently almost fucked me over yesterday.. xD
Anyway yeah the speed of the machine seems remarkable.

"Hey, can you burn a cd...oh wait never mind"
That's the reason I keep cd drives around :P I'm not one for macs either, but that is crazy fast. Whenever people bring Macbook Airs in for troubleshooting (I do tech support), I'm always impressed by how fast they boot.

I prefer my Macbook Pro, I couldn't deal with those Airs, I used a few and always felt like I was going to break it >.<!
Nice R/W speeds though, A little bit higher then what my Corsair GT gets.
