Why I think certain software(s) can/should have "backdoors".
This is for people bitching about these types of things. Specifically in EOSource (and Seose). I think we, as programmers, have every right to protect our intellectual property as we see fit. Not only that, some of us may periodically release things that even we don't think should be released,
giving us the option of remotely killing it with fire.
Most of these softwares are CLOSED source, should remain that way, or the programmer really wants it to remain that way. 2 reasons. So things like these can be hidden/obfuscated, and so it can't be stolen. If the programmer wanted you making changes to it, (s)he would have made it open source to
begin with.
The only thing I can agree with the whiners about, is that the programmer warns the users that a kill switch is there, and it will be used if necessary. As for me, there is no such thing in PlasmaEOProxy (which still seems to be popular), but there is one in EODrone (which shouldn't have
technically been released).
I for one would like to hear your opinion on this.

I agree. when someone uses a program, they give it control to their computer. If they don't want it tampering with stuff, they should make their own.

Agreed. Someone using a closed source should know the risks of backdoors. I think that if they don't trust the source they are getting the program from, they should make their own. But, I don't think putting a backdoor for emergency reasons isn't worth ranting about. ---

You're right they should be one, But it shouldn't be abused.

I usually add a killswitch to tools that may cause some serious damage if abused, but I haven't made any tools like that public. I never send a dangerous tool without a killswitch even to a trusted friend. If someone leaks it I prefer to be able to just disable someone's access to the tool, or
even prevent unknown users from using it (checking if user's IP is allowed etc).

I agree entirely although some people should not have access to it(unless you want it to be abused or become public).

I totally disagree, Why release it if you didn't want people abusing it?, Harmful backdoors...etc, shouldnt be released, When people put trust in a software.

In a perfect world, no one would abuse them, therefore there would be no need for a killswitch or other hidden protocols. However, this is not a perfect world. If you don't agree with having backdoors, then don't put them into your things. Your opinions will not change the fact that backdoors come
in very handy in case of things not going as intended.
