Post #128169 EOSERV 0.6.0

Warning: Distribution of this release of EOSERV is restricted under the requirements of the GPLv2. The source code used to build it is available from http://files.eoserv.net/source/

EOSERV 0.6.0 has been released. This should just be considered a preliminary release to test the new quest system for 0.6.1, however, as usual, it is highly recommended to upgrade from 0.5.4.

New features:

  • EO+ quests and books (Vodka's EO+ quest guide) (List of supported rules/actions in EOSERV: Quest_Reference)
  • $request admin command (reloads all quests)
  • $qstate admin command (force-sets quest states for your character)
  • Two-handed/dual-wield weapon support
  • BaseMinDamage/BaseMaxDamage config options (config/misc.ini)
  • BotCharacters config option (config/sln.ini)
  • cmdprotect admin.ini privilege (people lower admin level can't target you with some commands)

Fixes:

  • SLN thread no longer leaks sockets
  • Crash when dealing with a bad packet length
  • Removed SP cap of 100 so magic doesn't wear you out so fast
  • Allow warping within a map while it's evacuating
  • Block the character "server" from being created
  • Spells don't over-heal when LimitDamage is disabled (thanks Klutz)
  • FirstCharacterAdmin doesn't let any admin create HGM characters
  • RPN (formulas.ini) relational, bitwise and boolean operation improvements
  • Removed redundant and unused "AttackLimit" config option

 Known problems:

  • Players who finished a quest are disconnected. (Fixed in r301)
    Workaround: Create an empty state called end: state end { }
  • GiveItem() shows wrong item amounts if you already have the item (Fixed in r302)
  • Removing a quest that someone has started/finished can cause crashes (Fixed in r309)
    Workaround: disable the quest instead by putting "disabled" in the Main block
    Note: Removing/replacing quests is a bad idea anyway. If another quest is re-added with that ID later, people's quest states will still match the old quest.

Hey will you be adding pets ? if not you should definiately add mining and fishing as omost every server uses them..

Why would you do that, when you can do it yourself. Plus it would be a pain removing all of that if you wouldn't want it.

the point of having a private server is to make your server different from EO

EDIT: Colby... it wouldnt be hard to add a mining = off in config...

the point of having a private server is to make your server different from EO


The point of a server emulator is to emulate EO, and such novel features simply don't belong in the core of EOSERV. If you like, given EOSERV is open source, you can write them yourself; maybe even write them in EO++ one day.

Do you think it will be possible if you could add CheckKarma to the quest section. We have a way to give/take Karma, but not a way to check it. This could open up and expand EO far beyond where it was before. I only ask because I'm not smart enough to add something like that to eoserv withoutmessing it up.


Edit: Wonderful job on eoserv 6, your doing a great job. This is making me want to learn C++.

You can do that already with the StatXXX() rules:

rule   StatLess("karma", 500)  goto TooEvil
rule   StatGreater("karma", 1500)  goto TooGood
rule   StatBetween("karma", 500, 1500)  goto JustRight
