I did not want to drag up the feud between communities again. However this, I feel, needs attention. Not as a member of EOSERV, because I couldn't really care less about the benefits and weaknesses of either. I don't operate a private server, and chances are I never will. However as someone with a clue in marketing, I couldn't help but cringe at this one.

There's a reason companies like Novell and Oracle don't publish epic trailers every time a new piece of networking software or hardware comes out. For starters epic trailers are best left to the movie studios and game studios, they have a product or service out with a story to tell and they feel the need to reel you into that story with a small taste, encouraging you to purchase their product and see the rest of it.

Server software does not need this. It's a tool. It's designed to serve a purpose and deliver a service to an end user. The kind of people who use this software or hardware would be considered IT Professionals, they want specs and figures, not a directory listing of your product set to Christian Rock (note the band below the video, now look it up on Wikipedia, you'll see what I mean).

As a matter of fact, depending on the target audience of your product, an epic trailer can actually significantly cheapen the image of the brand and the product itself. A perfect example of this is the commercial for Microsoft Songsmith. Does anyone remember that? In a nutshell, nobody bought that shit. As a matter of fact it's now the subject of ridicule with a number of YouTube parodies and song remixes. They would have been better off had they simply not published the commercial at all.

Learn from this. Marketing School 101. Know Your Target Audience. Then produce content that caters to their interests. It's server software, geared toward the technically inclined, not a hollywood epic.

On-topic: I didn't listen to any music but if I did, the commercial might of been substantially more interesting. I got about 20 seconds into it before I closed the tab.

The only thing you do is advertising for BWP and trolling. I have never seen you posting something useful. If you didn't care about EOSource than you people didn't post all kind of things about it. Aren't we allowed to make a video about EOSource? And no i won't back off. Not for you atleast.
