| iPhone/Android EOSERV Application
I was wondering if anyone took the time to ever think about creating an EOSERV Application for the iPhone and Android Devices. If not, is it possible?

--- Yep.

It would be a nice app to have. However when you are on the EOSERV homepage, on your iPhone, just press te picture of the book and click add to home screen.

To develop an EOSERV application and distribute it to the iPhone would be costly for most members. $99 to join the iPhone Developer Program. Xcode is then free to download, but it only runs on Mac OS X, so you need a Mac to run it. Then you need to know the programming language, which is Objective-C, along with the basics of using the Xcode IDE. Then it needs to be cleared to run on the iPhone/iPod App Store. In a nutshell, you'd almost be better off making a mobile version of the site template and having it trigger automatically whenever a handheld device's user agent is detected. You won't get all the bells and whistles of a full blown iPhone application, but it would be more economically viable (with the added bonus of also working on just about every modern mobile device). --- EOSERV.net Academy Of Trolls, Satirists & Sarcastics 5.5 Years Former Site Administrator / Moderation Team / Member (Retired)

Still, it's a lot of effort just to download and install a simple EOSERV application. However it would have the added advantage of allowing us to host it on our own repository.

The developer tools and all associated software are free to use regardless of whether you're a registered developer or not. I still think building phone compatibility directly into the core of the EOSERV Forum would be the simplest method by far. Better compatibility between mobile devices too.
