One addition to your server.

Post #117939 One addition to your server.

We all know EO is, lets face it, pretty dated. But it's still quite addictive. It has a certain je ne sais quoi that nobody can quite put their finger on. So, here is my question:

If you're here then I'm guessing you either run or play an EO private server. If you could add just one feature to whatever server it is, what would it be? Think carefully. ONE feature. Explain what it would be and why you think this means the most to you.

Seeds which allow you to plant trees, plants and such. I don't really know why it's just cool i guess. And maybe if a plant/tree is big u can sell it? Sounds nice to me

So are you thinking either each user gets their own farm ala Farmville or a single "world" that users can manipulate ala MineCraft?

I'd add a real job/profession system. A profession system that doesn't give you stuff when you punch a tree, water or something else. Probably requiring a specified skill level to harvest/mine something and having a proper delay between harvesting same tree/whatever. Also... some kind of item making professions to make armors, food, potions and stuff.

I'm with Bart on this one, I think a properly working Job and Profession system would be great because It's just like a little expansion to the game without extensively changing the gameplay as maybe an instanced farm might (Going back to Hollow's Idea) but just like some Job based quest linesand certain rewards based upon certain jobs. EO as it is at the moment is what kept me entertained for so long back in my childhood so if it was able to do that, then I don't see a need for a massive change to something that has appeal, and works.

i would go for the idea, that you can basicly create your own house/world. maybe would be a bit weird with eo, but like being able to putting objects on the ground and changing ground tiles. something like being able to map edit your world as a player.

but then wouldn't that sorta take away the fact of server mappers making maps? unless you coded it too where players can only change in-house maps?

If I remember rightly, that kinda thing was replicated with EOR, but back then they just did it with barrels. When I started coding my own EOServer I played around with that concept and tried to make the server read if there was a barrel (Inventory Item) on the floor infront of the player, and if there was then the player wouldn't be allowed to walk through it. I never really got anywhere with it because a) I suck and coding and b) I couldn't make the link between maps and walking on the maps.. But yeah with EOR if an admin dropped a barrel then it would effectively create a wall without the map needing to be mutated :P it was pretty cool

yeh not sure ofcourse there would be some limitations, but i like the idea to being able to create your own world.

Yeah, that indeed would be a pretty cool idea if the owner coded a system too where you have your own house and with that house you can map it too the way you like it, or a whole town?

Unfortunately, the main problem with having "moddable" maps is the client. EO simply wasn't written to do this and although it's possible it would require sending a map mutate every time a single tile isupdated to inform the client. Not sure if this is how the lotto did it of if there is some unknown to me packet that allows single tile updating, I'll look into it, if anyone has of any information on this I'd love to know.

Keep these great ideas coming but think "can this be implemented by the server without client modification" ;]

EDIT: I checked old logs. The EO lotto simply uses map mutation so no luck there. =[

Hm, I always though pk was useless. Thus, I think this is a decent idea.

When you right click a character you have the options: Trade, paperdoll, etc.. I was thinking maybe adding "PK" to the list. The respective person will have a message (similar to a party invite or a trade) appear on their screen. Ex: "Name is challenging you to a PK battle" They can either"accept'' or "decline". If they accept, both parties will have to place a bet. Once they have reached a decision they will either spawn in the PK zone or obtain a PK scroll.. ( what ever floats your boat) Once the battle is over you will either win or lose the amount of money you agreed on in the bet.. of course =]

I'm not entirely proud of this idea but it's a thought.. You can always work around it, I guess.

By The Way: I no longer run a server and no longer play EO.

I always thought it would be cool to be able to woodcut and mine, but not as simple as what hollow has in his revs. I was thinking more along the lines of when you wood cut, the tree will eventually fall down, and replenish kind-of like runescape. Same goes with mining.
