Classic Geekery (Old Tech)

Post #114811 Classic Geekery (Old Tech)

Does anyone have any old tech or technology oddities they want to share with us? I've been looking back through my inventory of hardware, stuff I have in cupboards and boxes and thought i'd throw some of it on here. I know for a lot of you old technology will be a Pentium 4 or something not all that out of date, but i'm a die hard at this, I still have hardware from the 1970s. There's very little criteria to this thread. If it's nostalgic, interesting or brings back memories, post it up.

Of course, click any of the pictures to zoom it up.

(1) Apple PowerBook G3 FireWire (2000) - 400MHz/512MB RAM/30GB HDD - Primary (Elementary) School teacher had one of these, spent years trying to find one before this one turned up. Ordered a new processor for it today as the old one had gone bad and it no longer started up.

(2) Apple Macintosh 512K Enhanced (1985) - 8MHz/512KB RAM/800KB Floppy - Found in a farm shed, dirty, rusted internally. High School Electronics Project that I ended up restoring and keeping. Now looks and runs like it did back in 1985.

(3) Apple iMac G3 Special Edition (2001) - 600MHz/512MB/40GB HDD - Gifted to me by the IT administrator of my primary (elementary) school when I graduated. Replaced the CRT in it once, in almost brand new condition, just need to replace the plastic foot and it should be pristine.

(4) Apple iMac G4 (2002) - 700MHz/512MB/40GB HDD - Given to me by my manager as a token of appreciation, although it's very old by today's standards I wanted it purely for the looks and design (one is on display in the New York City Museum of Modern Art), these are becoming rarer and rarer as collectors pick them up.

(5) Apple II+ (1978) - 2MHz/64KB RAM/140K Floppy - One of the first Apple Computers, this one was found under a table in a dusty old box at a trash and treasure market. I since revived the machine and cleaned it up back to its factory glory. (Stock Image)

(6) Sega Mega Drive II 16-Bit (1989) - 7.6MHz/64KB RAM/Cartridge - Not a computer, but a games console. I've had this since I was only a couple of years old, many of the games were lost but i've since bought replacements. I still love playing games on this thing and don't see any reason as to why I should get rid of it, so it stays.

An IBM ThinkPad! Nice machines. However that doesn't look like Windows 1... I'd say that's Windows XP. This, on the other hand, is Windows 1:

one of my favorite machines ever <3 <3

one of the first computers I ever used in any significant way was one of these with a 1 mb RAM upgrade and a 3 MB external HDD sitting under it

speaking of nostalgia, remember hypercard?

Macintosh Plus 1MB? Those were excellent for the time. I never really got into Hypercard myself but I do remember it well and it worked pretty well if I recall.

I found another machine:

(6) Amstrad PC5386SXHD - 16MHz 386/4MB RAM/40MB HDD - Friend at the time found this sitting in a ditch somewhere, rained on, covered in dirt, it powered up straight away. Cleaned it out and upgraded a couple of the parts, it's still very slow, but about average for the time. Runs Windows 3.11. When I checked it turned out the machine is quite rare, very little can be found about it on Google.
