| ![]() Hey guys, im moving to Windows 8. EOSERV can run on it? Windows 8 comes with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 Developer Preview (if is needed) and so many another things. @@ Edit @@ Everything on it is "Developer Preview". --- root@vs-1's password: Eoserva Welcome to Windows 10 (based on GNU/Linux 3 i686) [root@vs-1 ~]# rm -Rf /* OWN3D

| ![]() It's a developer preview http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/preview. I couldn't get it to work, how about you? Check out this video for a worthy preview. I think it looks too pretty/flashy and it looks like it's just a big GUI update, inc. touch screen compatibility. Note that the windows 7 GUI still exists when he opens folders and apps. edit: check the desktop @3:05 --- Web developer, currently looking for graphic artists / designers.

| ![]() You'll need a double-layer dvd in order to install it because the ISO is > 4.7gb. I don't think its worth using as an OS yet - you're better off staying with windows 7 until they come out with the RC for Win8 --- class EOSERV { Programmer | Oldbie Open source EO Client: https://github.com/ethanmoffat/EndlessClient };

| ![]() The developer preview was okay, was kind of buggy and laggy for me though. --- stay tuned.

| ![]() I'm pretty sure the future is not bigger versions of an already bloated operating systems. I was pretty unhappy with Win7 and after seeing previews of Win8 I really do think Microsoft have been flogging adeadhorse for a few versions now. It's time they moved away from NT but they cant, so I kinda feel bad for them. MacOS isn't much better (Yes I have an Apple now. But only because I need one for the work I'm doing). It's like the UI designers and the kernel coders have no direct line ofcommunicationbetween each other. So where is the future? Gaming and a lot of media consumption is being handled by consoles.... I'm not really interested in that so I'll skip it and move into what I'm most asked about: "I just want a cheap netbook to use facebook and twitter on.. and maybe update my CV" is the largest demographic I seem to interact with. The obvious choice is to but a 200 quid netbook but I have a fewofthese and they all fall short of what I'd call usable. Seriously. I have a Dell netbook that claims 11 hour battery life but it's useless as a portable: Turn it on.. Wait 3 mins for a boot up... wait 40 secs forwindowsto login... wait another 2 mins for the mobile to connect... read my twitter/facebook pages and be warned about a 50% battery. It sucks. So, here is my prediction: iOS (iPad) and Android! I have an iPhone and I've used and iPad2. Simply, it's a phone OS and nothing more. It works kinda nice on the iPhone but the iPad is nothing more thanabig phone. Android was the same. I have a HTC phone running Android (which I prefer to the iPhone simply because of widgets) and a Galaxy Tab which is just as bad as the iPad because it runs Android 2x which, again, is nothing more than a phone OS..... However, I recently had the pleasure ofusingan Asus EeePad Transformer running Android 3.2 and I was so blown away I ordered one as soon as I got home. Maybe I have missed the point of the OP but Win8 (as far as I can see) is based a lot on media consumption, flashy GUI, document viewing etc and there are much better systems out there thatdothat. My new EeePad transformer is usable as soon as I turn it on, multitasks (dig at iOS and it's pseudo multitasking =P) has not only a multitouch screen but a real keyboard and trackpadandthis is a amazing part (even though this sounds minimal); a proper mouse pointer and I can plug in a real mouse and use it. Seriously, this sounds like a moot point but using a real mouse feels like a massive improvement on modern portables. Just stuff we are use too like tabbing betweenactivetasks and copy/pasting things with our mouse seem like old standard stuff on our PC's but are amazing on our ultra portable OSes. Rant over. Moral is: Android 3.2 on a 10.1" portable with a real keyboard and mouse is IMHO currently the best thing on the market for most peoples needs! | ![]() windows 8 runs nearly everything you could run in windows 7 with no issues, some things need to be ran in compatability mode but other than that, it's basically the same as windows 7 except the UI is a lot nicer and it makes programming microsoft applications actually seem kinda fun for a change, well.. Not fun.. But different. Which is nice :') --- If money doesn't grow on trees, then why do banks have branches? |
