Group Collaboration
Im going to be getting a vps (better one, right now im getting fucked over with a huge price each month). What i am asking is, if i wanted to host an eoserv or whatever project on it, would anyone like to collaborate on it and work together to create something better than what we have? I
wouldfoot the bill for it each month and we could develop a game and maps and such for it. Would anyone be interested? I have a ton of ideas and would need lots of help to create this. I talked about this before and slowly worked on it to the point of needing other people involved. Im at that point
ofgoing public, i have few maps and such and a master revision to end all revisions; EOPerl at this point is not stable, the most its been up is 28 days without crashing but further to the point i will not be the only programmer on this and need people of many talents, item balancing, mappers,
questwriters, graphic artists so on and so forth. Who's interested?
EDIT: It's time we decide to do this. Nothing has worked before we need to be the change. We need to use pure creation to stand apart from the rest. We need to say to the others, we are NOT going to stand for just the mediocre stuff you have given us. We deserve more.

Ahh okay, theres one and this idea is well in the beginning stages sort of, i need people to assemble all this stuff so at one time we can release it and then just sit back and take our time on the next update as people get a feel for it. I think this a great idea and i plan to stick with iteven
if i have to do it myself. Im not going to just say it and then dissapear into the background like everyone else does.
EDIT: Got some maps done today with a nice general theme to them. Got a couple city maps done, gonna add some npc spawns and some shops and stuff, maybe a quest or two im gonna host the server on a spare laptop till i get more support for this project and get my revision done or might use vodka
because it has a non-crappy made by me quest system that doesnt do random things sometimes.

Hmm, i could help a bit. I have a 7 pretty good custom maps for my old server that i was making completely from scratch and like 4 quests including a guide quest.
I also have some really good ideas that have made my past servers succeed.

Awesome i got some maps and stuff done, gonna lead to some awesome places its gonna be capped though like one town for the low levelers one town for medium level people one town for high level people and therell be places that are just exclusive themes too like one desert one swamp etc im hoping
we get a couple more people to help before i even think of buying a vps for a full year and a neat little domain to go with it i havent even thought of a name for it yet. tomorrow im gonna load up a test server and make a couple quests put items in shops and make skills/spells available and
put npcs on maps but i have the general flow of the maps down and know how i want to proceed. theres going to be some awesome things going on with this and i havent been this excited about a project before so thats good. im also going to need to make some training areas tomorrow and revisit a
couple early maps i made for this and add some way to get to training areas and make a better maze map READ ARTISTS: MAZE MAP (NEEDS WORK)

eww no training areas. because of some ideas i got :
- Class based economy (only wear your class items, and they only effect your main stat)
- ------- Like Warriors will use shields and heavy armor, they have good defence and a little lower damage
- Item gain mostly from quests or craft
- ------- the harder your game is (Not too hard) the longer people will play the game for because they dont get bored of sitting there with the
bestitems and they are working for their items!
- Low damage rate, low exp rate, low level rate, low gold rate, high item drop rate
- ------- This is a very very good technique, it allows for the economy to stay steady and also to keep damage to a minimum and
keeppeoplein"Groups"
- ------- this has worked very well in the servers i have seen this in
- ------- High drop rate keeps plays fighting for items as said in the 3rd Main point
- ------- Training areas kinda ruin this, let them go quest for their exp.
- Completely custom pubs/maps
- ------- This helps alot because everyone is tired of the old endless maps
- Events Events Events
- -------- Events help bring people to your server
- -------- Instead of rewarding "Items" reward "Tokens" and slight amounts of EXP. When the player has a certain amount, they can spend it
oneventitemswhich do nothing for stats but give them a fun little "Trophy" or say about a ticket for an "Event title"?
- No hacky rev
- -------- Meaning no fishing, no harvesting, no farming, or any of that shit
- -------- These are just crappy aditions to the game
These are some very good and developed ideas.

Its a good idea and all, and I support it. But how is talking this up any different than any one of us advertising a server project? Afterall, isnt every server project a group effort? Yet if I was to make a post stating I was starting a server and needed mappers, pixelers, coders, and
writers, how long would it be before it hit the spamcan?

Well, the server isnt actually made yet, and he isnt really hiring anyone, just asking for anyone that wants to help to post, and thats not even the main point of the topic :P ---

I like your ideas but i feel that i would want some of those hacked on features but make the player work for them and make it balanced to the best of my ability you know? I like all of your ideas but i plan making training areas or i shouldnt use that word i should say boss areas you

yeah, theres one idea that i really like in servers. You would be stuck in an area doing quests and killing regular monsters until you got to a certain level and then you could go to the next area. Each area has its own type of boss for that level. ---

i will definetly add you, im probably gonna do some myself as like starter things but beyond that, i hope this works out, heres what i would need help with deciding: how do we proceed with this? i say we gather all released graphics and add them into a client?
Edit: So here it is im going to load up a server after i edit a few more maps and then im going to put npcs and shit on the map and we need to get organized and figure out how to pull this all off. Any ideas?

id rather have it here, i just need some help getting organized, what type of stuff should we have? I have some basic towns maps and stuff set up and gonna write a quests that people can do to get to a decent level but then what after that?
edit: im going to create it so once you get to a level you cant enter back into this one world, there will be no way back, is that a good idea? a level and quest limit in this area

I suggest going off-site as well so as to not accidentally break any rules regarding
advertisement etc. It's quite easy to do that without realizing it or meaning it.
