Post Your Specs (and Pics)
I'm in the middle of a machine build at the moment, have received confirmation that all of my gear will be arriving tomorrow morning, so I thought it's time to post up a spec thread. Share your system
specs, postsome photos and ask questions and comment on other people's hardware. May even get some inspiration for that next big upgrade.
Kicking off this roadshow, I have my Apple MacBook (Late 2008). First thing's first, yes, it's a Mac. It runs Mac OS X. it's not as commonly heard of to modify a Mac. However, I did anyway.

The system consists of the following (stock parts in black, upgraded parts in bold):
- Intel Core 2 Duo Processor @ 2.0GHz
- 8GB Corsair DDR3 Memory, 1067MHz Bus
- 500GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200rpm SSD/Rotational Hybrid Drive
- nVidia GeForce 9400M Graphics Processor (16 Parallel Cores, 256MB)
- 8x SuperDrive
- Arctic Cooling MX-4 + Copper Heatpipe (Covers CPU, GPU and Chipset)
-
1280 x 800 LG-Philips Internal LED Backlit Display (Custom Fitted) + Reinforced Laminated Glass Cover
- 802.11b/g/n Wireless Networking + 1000BaseT Ethernet
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with Full 64-Bit Kernel & Extensions
...and some potential upgrades and modifications to come.
- FastMac TruePower extended life battery pack

Time to estimated completion is a few months. Total cost of the computer including all upgrades and accessories (bag,
cables, etc) is $540.

I'm actually thinking about taking all the modified parts and swapping them into a machine with an Intel Core i5... but I should make all of my expenditures back so no loss at all. ---

Trust me, I'm running on an eMachine right now, for their low price they aren't worth it unless you can put up with the constant flaws in the built in firewall. ---

Well I had to get a computer for school and so I went with the cheapest package I could find. Never had any viruses in till this year. Used it for about 2 years virus free with no virus protection. Its all about how you run your computer and what you do on it. Though this year I've had so many problems it is not even
funny.
But they are good little computers for people that just need to use words/excel/power point and to store pictures (if the folder doesn't get to big.)

That's what I was referring to. Mine worked fine for the longest time, then one day I started getting errors bit by bit. It eventually lead to PC Restores every 6 months, then 3 months, now it's down to one month. I don't want to bother bringing into a store to have it fixed because I
payedlike 175$ for it, and like you said, It's cheap, but so cheap that it's not worth spending like half the worth to fix it.
Anyways, if anyone did not know this, you can find all of your system specs if you:
Start>Run>Dxdiag
Hope that helps someone.
Edit: Quackers, we have the same keyboard and speakers but not the same PC =P. Got a custom mouse but yours looks the same as my old one. Coincidence or just Intel and eMachines not upgrading.

It was a best buy deal for $350 odd dollars, but it came with a monitor and printer as well. Sad thing was, I ended up not being able to work shortly after
buying that computer. And since I was planning on use'n my next paycheck to pay it off (was use'n credit to raise up my credit), I ended up not being able to pay it off. I ended up paying well over $600 for this computer and even though it is paid off..best buy is still attacking my credit and
saying I owe $700+. Even though I have two of their departments stating that I am paid in full lol. Either way I got a life long lesson out of this deal.
Also thank you for this topic, I was going to go with a pre-built until I noticed this
topic. This will help me out alot to learn what is actually a good build. So I'll try to hold out until next year to make me a true custom build pc. Really, why buy something for $600 when you can spend $1,500 on something that
can basically last a life time. (When parts are switched out.)
