Which computer should I get?
I've been in the market for a new computer for a while now, it has just taken me forever to figure out the right computer for me. Over the past month I've
beentrying to figure out a computer that will fit my needs. So I started to look at what I am use'n now...Windows 7 32bit with an AMD Athlon Processor 2650e 1,600 Mhz
It has 2GB ram with a Nvidia GeForce 9200 graphics card.
It runs great but the processor and ram are just not keeping up with my needs. I mainly use my computer to stream tv and to visit these forums.
My budget is $550 but I can go a little bit over if I need to. But here are the two main computers I am looking at.
i3 processor with 8gig ram for $530
No bloatware, 1TB hard drive, 6 usb ports...everything else on it is pretty much junk but its better then mine lol
i5 processor with 8gig ram for $580
Bloatware, 1TB hard drive, wifi built in, 10 usb ports...everything else is basically junk but still better then mine
Really I don't need much, but I cannot figure out which one I should get. I want something that can last me at least 5 years and both of
theseare reasonably priced with great reviews.

I wouldn't get the first cause i3 is pretty low if you want it to last you a couple years and not be completely disappointed.
I wouldn't get the second cause I've had enough problems with Acer and now that they own Gateway its went to shit too(I have a Gateway laptop).
Pretty much I would never encourage buying a pre-built desktop now that I've built one. You can probably build something for roughly the same price with same specs but better brands.
www.newegg.com is good, tigerdirect is too, but I don't know if its only in canada.

I would love to build my own, but Windows 7 cost $200 for the Full version. I'll look into it more tonight after my brothers football practice and see how much building my own will cost me. Thanks
Matt.
Also I know how you feel, I used to build them all the time when I had my XP licence that I
could use over and over again. But now Microsoft is all uptight on their licences and I haven't kept up on how to reuse their keys.

Most of the newer computers, for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 have a built in license, so you don't have to type it in everytime you recover or restore your PC. As for building your own, it would be better just to buy the Full version then customize it from there.

If you're only streaming TV and viewing forums you don't need much of a computer, just a good bandwidth. However Better=Better (doh) so if you can spare the extra $50 then go for the Gateway. Even the i3 is a massive upgrade from the 2650e so with an i5 you'll notice a big difference when
compiling big projects, especially with the extra RAM.

Re: Which computer should I get?
Thank ya'll for your advice...never thought I'd have such a hard time picking out a computer. Guess what I'll do is go with the Gateway and then in a year or two I'll build my own. I can always give this computer to my girlfriend when I upgraded, nothing like saying I love you then give'n an
outdated gift. :)
I've never been one for Gateway but I rather not build a computer when I really don't have the money to buy high quality products.
And Sordie I think you just sold me on the gateway lol. Thanks :)
