Post #97753 Internal HD error

Hello, this is more of a hardware issue. I guess this is the correct section.

I'm wondering if anyone ever had this error; and how they dealt with it:

Both my computers are fucked :(. Do I have to by a new HD? If you've had this error before please tell me more about it. I don't want to buy a new hard drive if possible. I've tried reformatting etc. I'm using a lap-top atm.

Id say start the backup process, then get your computer checked out by a hardware expert :P

The details just say what drive is and that is reporting failure.

You can always restore it back to the point where it was working fine.

I deleted the entire hard drive. Restoration is not going to help.

Go to this website to see if your Disk is beyond auto-repair:

http://www.hdtune.com/index.html

If it says that your Disk is working fine then it could be other problems such as trojans/viruses/etc making it appear that its broken.

I suggest you just backup your files ASAP even after checking the website above.

I appreciate all of your help!

@Misca:
The program does warn that my HD health stats is at a warning level.

If anyone has ever overcome this error please tell me about it. Again I want to thank all that replied.

It means your Hard Drive's SMART status (Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is showing signs of a pending hard disk drive failure. Back up your data immediately if you haven't already done so and change the hard drive with a new one.

The issue is at the mechanical or electronic level. Restore points, reinstalls or reformats will not help to repair it. Replacement is the only option.

Thankfully, although it is a hassle, replacement hard drives for desktops or laptops are becoming extremely cheap these days. A good Western Digital or Seagate can only set you back around $40 for 500GB of storage. I'd steer clear of Hitachi drives, but it's your call.
