About 11 months ago I started my freshman year of college in Seattle. I entered thinking I was dating the girl I was going to marry, that I would major in CS and minor in Music (Piano Performance). Oh, how things change.

Now I'm about to start my sophomore year of college in Seattle. I'm entering thinking how stupid I was for trying a long distance relationship with that girl. Now I still want to major in CS, but I've decided against a music minor. I may double major with CS and EE but I'm not sureaboutthatyet.Ihave my (first) job as a helpdesk technician at the university which involves deploying newly built computers, and providing tech support to the campus. Suffice to say that I never want to see another printer in my life.

Next year is next year. Who knows what I'll be doing...kinda exciting at this point since so much is unknown :D

I shall end this post with a quote from the brilliant mind of our generations greatest philosopher. Just to express how I feel about life.

"We, we, we, so excited. We so excited."

Things may be different at your university, but a double major in CS and EE would be almost impossible in 4 years here.

The way it works at my school (and most, from what I gather) is that you have a specific number of credits for a specific type of degree (BA, BS, etc..) and then for your major you need a specific amount of creditsinthat direction. For example, at my school you need about 130 for a BS, andfor the CS major you need about 80 degree specific credits. So that would mean you could do 80 CS credits and 50 credits unrelated to the major (gen ed stuff, etc..). Well, at my school a CS major is about 80 credits, andtheEE major in 110, they don't overlap too much. Meaning in order to double major in those two things, adding in general ed credits, you'd need to do about 210+ credits. In 4 years that simply isn't possible, even if you did summer/winter/short spring semesters (which would mean you'd basically beinschool all year sans a few scattered weeks), you probably wouldn't be able to make that.

Typically engineering majors (which CS is also considered) have huge course loads, and doing a double major with two of them isn't really feasible unless you want to spent like 8 years in undergrad. Honestly, Idon'teven think they would let you do that, but I'm not certain.

For me, my second major is math, which only needs about 30 credits (the lowest of any degree I've seen). I guess the material is considered harder or something, and a lot of the courses overlap (e.g. many CScoursesare electives for the math major), so I'll be able to do that double major without any extra credits, granted most of my credits will be core courses and not too many 'easy' courses, but I'm okay with that. Actually, going into this freshman year I'm already taking what a typical math majorwouldtake during his sophomore year (MAT 307), not only that but MAT 307/308 is atwo semester sequence that covers the material in 3 normal classes (Calc III, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations), so by the end of this year I'll be 3 semesters ahead.

Haha who said anything about four years? xD I just think it might be fun so I'm going to try it out and see how I like it. You're definitely right about the course load for each one, but a bunch of the classes for those majors overlap. I even brought up the possibility of a double major to myfaculty adviser (help me plan my courses out) and they didn't completely shoot me down. At least not yet...
Well good luck with that. EE is a good field.

How'd you go about get certified sb?

I started by taking up work experience with an Apple Reseller. Shortly after they dropped the work experience title and took me on as a Part Time employee, which involved putting me through two courses and an exam conducted by Prometric. Only set me back around $320 but so far it's been worth it.

Best advice I can offer is to take up a course that specialises in the field, or find employment with a business that deals in the field you want to be in then begin enquiring about becoming certified. In addition companies like Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle and many others often have training programs that can lead you on your way to certification quickly and relatively easily, so it may be worth contacting a company and asking for more information.

Thanks for the advice SB, I was thinking about trying to find some sort of work through MS in Seattle but I wasn't sure if they had training programs.

Following an education that does everything with Media and design.
Currently I'm working at E2Projects in the Netherlands thats a 3D company that makes vizualisations as products.
My future plan is to go to America and work there as 3D designer for a bigger company.

If your job in the Netherlands is stable, secure and your able to make ends meet, then I wouldn't chance coming to America for a job.
