Re: Restoring Laptop to Factory Settings?
Well my suggestion if you have windows are these few easy steps.
1. Go to the left hand corner of your screen, click the windows button.
2. Go to Control Panel, then Go to System and Security.
3. At the top, you will see Action Center.
4. Now click restore your computer to an earlier time.
5. And then you go to advanced recovery methods, here you can restore your computer to factory settings.
Idk if this helps? :S goodluck.

Here comes sblord with his bag of awesome advice.
System restoration discs are different between every make, model and year of computer, so it's hard to tell you what to do exactly. However you do at the very least want to boot the computer off those CDs and follow the steps provided after the computer has started up off those discs. That
usually erases the hard drive (have a backup of your data first) and reinstalls the operating system, drivers and any bundled software. The computer will be exactly as it left the factory.
I presume this is what you wanted to do anyway.

@Mitch- I clicked on the Windows button but I don't see a System and Security. I have Windows XP on the laptop
@Sblord- I have 2 CD's a blue one that says for Re installing Dell Latitude System Software and a green one that says For Reinstalling Microsoft Windows XP. Which one do I use?

Ignore what Mitch said. He didn't understand the question. Download user's manual for your notebook and see if there's something about system reinstallation. If there isn't try the green cd.

Use the Reinstalling Microsoft Windows XP 1st then use the Blue one...
An as Sb said make sure to back up any data you would like to save. ---

Re: Restoring Laptop to Factory Settings?
Thx guys! I put in the green disc and whenever I rebooted the computer, it worked! It deleted everything but it's ok since I had a whole bunch of programs I didn't even use. Thanks guys, you guys saved me $80 that I would have wasted in fixing it with a pro. ---

Re: Restoring Laptop to Factory Settings?
Future reference... System Restore doesn't restore a computer to factory settings. It's designed to recover from failed software or driver installs, registry issues and other system related issues only. It doesn't remove any data on the system and it won't do anything to help severe system
performance or reliability issues. ---
