Post #96025 Favorite Genre of Music/Band or Group

I was just curious to see what kind of music everybody likes O.O! (Max amount of 5 because I'm sure you have tons of bands/groups you like.)

I'll start

Genre(s): Screamo, Dubstep, Experimental, Electrocore, Deathcore

Band(s): I Set My Friend On Fire, Avenged Sevenfold, The Devil Wears Prada, Bless The Fallen, We Butter The Bread With Butter

Post #96030 Re: Favorite Genre of Music/Band or Group

I'll just name bands cause I can pretty much tolerate any genre to an extent.

Beneath The Sky

Norma Jean

The Holly Springs Disaster

Abandon All Ships

Skrillex

Not necessarily a fan of the high vocals of most of the songs you posted, especially WBOBWB. Idk why

Post #96259 Re: Favorite Genre of Music/Band or Group

I have this new appreciation for classical music because its the only music that is actually original. Most other songs (I'm not saying all...) are based off an insanely simple chord progression, especially mainstream Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B/other dance music. Or they don't even have a chord progression; it's just some shitty drum beat with a bass line while some guy talks. Oh and don't forget the random girl that sings every once in a while.

However I don't necessarily think that a simple chord progression makes the music bad. Mumford and Sons is one of my favorite bands right now and they have some of the easiest songs to play. Sometimes the simplicity is beautiful, sometimes it is obnoxious.

Not a big fan of country either, but that's just because I plain don't like the musical style at all. There are certain elements I like, but I can't get over the overall twangy-ness. Same goes for metal/screamo/etc. I like certain elements of the musical style, like how insanely talented all the musicians are, but it just kind of turns into a showing-off contest by the artists. At least that's what I get out of it.

What I do like are bands that can be original, have a uniquely different sound, and also be incredibly talented. It also helps if they're fun to sing along to ^.^ Probably why I like so much classic rock (I have a steadily growing vinyl collection that I started around 2008 when I bought Dark Side of the Moon). As for classical music, I'm a fan of Beethoven/Rachmaninoff/Schubert/Lizst. As for modern bands I'm a fan of Muse, Death Cab, Franz Ferdinand, Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.

Let me just say that I'm not trying to troll anyone or denounce your preferred style of music. I realize there are a lot of different opinions out there and I'm just saying what mine are. If you like Rap or Country or some other style of music, that's fantastic. I just don't get the same things out of the music that you do. My sister started listening to country (not T-Swift, real country) and I haven't completely denounced her yet :D

I can compose you a song if you want ;). But it's going to be on some cheap music making program 'cause I can't afford the $500-$900 ones. xP
