how would you put a custom client together?
Author Message
Post #87228 how would you put a custom client together?

was putting all my pixels into one client from the 5 or 6 clients i was useng to test pixels,  had a brain fart. and got stuck.

this is  going to be a release of all the pixel stuff i have or handed to someone i know will use it right.

if you was adding, alot of new items/walls/and objects, how would you add them in? after eo main orig gfx. or start new gfx files? or group all the same types of objects together.

i been on a toss up on this because all new, would make anyone who would use it, totaly remap there maps. and after eo main gfx. 90% of the servers could run with it?

Sorry I never noticed that the wiki page doesn't tell you how to edit the graphics. Download a resource hacker such as ResHacker and open the graphics files with that. Change them to your own graphics and allow people to download your custom client. or give them a patch but most people would not like this so I suggest making a download for the entire client when finished.

Well I would use the original maps and just add more to them + make new areas.

As for the GUI I would completely re-do it.

What he is asking here basically is how he can add new resources in his gfx, after the main eo resources. What you need to do make is add a new resource using the same numbering sequence as what currently exists in said gfx file, then you need to add a new icon for that gfx in your gfx23 file, then you need to add a new gfx number in your pub file. It can be quite complicated to explain. Come see me if you need more help as i am a veteran when it comes to adding new resources.

Personally I would have a really nice custom GUI(Not a particularly distinctive style, one that a wide range of servers could use), then I would add as many new GFX as I could without replacing the old main GFX. Then people could use it with their existing servers and still replace the old things if they choose.

No. What hes asking is:

He has multiple clients. He wants to know how to merge the clients together so it's one big client instead of the multiple clients he has.

(I think thats what it is.)

yes what i was asking, is if you was going to put a massive client together how would you do it. add after orig eo main gfx , or just start from gfx line 101 and add in everything, in your own custom order?

i am not asking how to add stuff in the gfx, nor am i asking how to edit anything. im simply asking if you had around 3000 things or more to put into a client, how would you add them in, after eo main stuff or start fresh and re-add ever gfx bitmap. im useng a scarscript to add everything in so its no effort to redo ever single placement order of the gfx files.

it depends, you do know the resource id numbers in the gfx files are limited to 10k right?

though, to be honest, if I had enough stuff to start completely from scratch I think I would go for it. if for no other reason than to have a set of gfx files with no "illegal" gfx in it.
