You still have to buy it.
And if I turned off Name Checking, I would have to set up an alternative authentication database and I really don't feel like doing that XD
Actually syran, you are 100% wrong.
It's in the server.properties file if you want to disable it, minecraft put it in there and bukkit supports it.

Actually Xx1337xX, you are 100% illiterate, and you did not pay attention to what I said. Lern2read son. I said that it IS POSSIBLE to disable, but you would still need some sort of name authentication.
And I apologize for not supporting stealing, I don't know what I was thinking, actually standing up for the law.

Minecraft is a very cool game but i hate 2 things.
1. You don't have a goal. (Yes building 1 house and a few achievements)
2. You dont have alot of things to do.

Remember the games only in beta, in the actual release their planning to have an adventure mode and more, so there will be more to do

Yes I have already stated that is possible. This makes the third time in fact. But once again, you would need an authentication system on the server end to keep people from logging on with other people's names.

i wouldnt even bother, if your going to set your server offline for illegal clients to login, its going to be for just friends anyway.
found this at the bottom of my mineshaft on my friends server a minute ago, lol, they killed me...

Re: Anyone plays minecraft?
Yeah the offline auth doesn't work properly anyways so I just said fuck it. If anyone has actually bought Minecraft and wants to come on my server, use the IP svr2.lolwut.net.
My friend Matt (Jadedwolf/Wolfdog) also runs a server that can be found at lolwut.net:25560 that has a much larger playerbase, so if you're into community go there. Mine is more just for shits and giggles and practice building different things.
