Yeah,I'm not very skilled at this kind of stuff. I wouldn't take my fan apart because I do have one thing, common sense.I would probably have my friend do it for me. :*P
Great move if you're not familiar with taking them apart. I wasn't actually sure the fan would work afterwards considering the thickness of the oil, so even I took a risk, but the results speak for themselves. ---

Hm, yeah but you probably kinda knew what you were doing. I do admit I fixed my TV once, but that's nothing since there was just a loose screw. All it takes is a functional brain.

Sblord is that a home improvement tim taylor ref? xD And yes if you don't know how to take a pc apart you most likely can't fix it. Let alone identify parts took me a month off and on to figure everything out alone. =P

Yup, if you try fixing a computer by yourself without experience to save money, you may end up losing even more money. Haha.

Certainly is... me and Tim have something in common. Crazy as shit ideas that usually end up in a less than desirable outcome. Apple hardware is my specialty though, 4 years experience and a year of formal training, so i'd better damn well know how to take it apart. ---

Re: Changing Laptop Oil
So why is this working because the other oil was old or because the new oil is better?

That doesn't make much sense. The answer would be both. The new oil is better, and NOT old. ---

I like this idea. I think I will try that on my old Toshiba laptop if I'll fix it.

Old oil tends to lose its lubricating properties after thousands of power-on hours. I can't imagine it was a particularly good oil to start with, either. ---
