 Would you be either blind? or deaf?
I had this conversation with someone and it was about if you would be either blind or deaf what would you choose?
I choose deaf because not seeing the persons or people around you could make you quite sad. You can still read etc. The only crappy thing is that you can't listen to music anymore. Or hear any voices.

I pick deaf but theres another downside about being deaf people could talk about you right in front of you and you wouldn't even know about it

Tough call. Of course it would be a benefit to be able to see something, or someone, but you could never interact with them on the same level. You may as well be looking at a statue.
However I think there's a better shot of reconstructing the mechanisms of the ear than the eye via use of electronic means (think a mic + DSP kind of setup sending signals directly into the brain) within our lifetime, so I would have to choose deaf, although I still think it's like being asked
whether you'd like to be stabbed or shot. Neither would be ideal.

Overlooking the point somewhat. Sure, it's pretty bad being blind or deaf no matter how you look at it, but in saying it's like asking whether you'd rather be shot or stabbed, I mean you would rather have neither happen. They're not direct comparisons between being blind and being shot or anything.
Just sayin'.
Personally i'd be screwed if I lost either of those two senses. At the moment I have perfect 20/20 vision with pinpoint distinguishing of colours across the entire spectrum, and can hear just fine across the frequency range, although possibly a little quieter than others. As something i'm now
accustomed to, a loss of either would be virtually unbearable.
That and have you actually ever tried typing on one of those braille keyboards? Shit man. Guy I met during work experience a few years back was completely blind, used a small device, think a laptop computer without the screen. He made it work, and good on him for doing so, but all I saw was a
half-arsed computer. I'm sure i'd do fine in that scenario then. =/
