EOSERV Community Game Project (Codename GREEN)

Post #53809 EOSERV Community Game Project (Codename GREEN)

I'm pleased to say that after some discussions between myself, Addy, Sausage, along with Klutz and Syran via email, we've decided to start work on the new game which, as Sausage suggested, we are currently calling "GREEN" as a codename. I'm pleased to say that all of these people are on board and have for the most part committed to developing the game into 2011.

To start with, we decided that we are going to extend beyond what Endless Online was capable of initially by having a scalable resolution full screen and windowed game. No more 640x480. Widescreen capable. In addition we have decided that the game will be developed to take full advantage of today's modern graphics processors, which means we'll be doing this in 3D.

So at the request of Addy and the #eohax channel resident developers, i've made this thread. We're currently looking for texture/pixel artists and 3D modellers to join the team. We don't need any long term commitment to the project (although this is more than welcome), but we do need some textures and 3D models to start with if we're to develop a working prototype.

EDIT: Oh, and the codename is not permanent. It'll do for a temporary placeholder though.

This right right here is some thing I can't wait to see.
I wish you all the luck and will be following this thread with my hopes set high. Also tell adam(addy) he never sent that Canadian "green" to my address.

hmm.. sounds fine to me only the 3d game isn't really my style since talking with people in 3d games doesn't really work with the most 3d games i've played.

well i enjoyed working with Syran and Klutz on the Black Water project  but im a 2-d pixel artist.ive enjoyed working on isometric graphics.though the project was abandoned mostly due to the fact of inability to update the client side functionality of the project.im no 3-D modeling artist i doubt my pc could run a 3-D modeling program.ive done some texture work for a friends Ragnarok server for the 3-D mapping and they accepted it happily. now i know i wasn't readily handing out my incomplete work to fellow team mates in the BW project.which might give the impression i don't wish to openly share my work with others.in some cases this was true i did have people approach me and tell me they wished to take my graphic arts as soon as they were publicly released.this put a bad mind set on the work i was doing and made second guess if what i was doing was for the right reasons. though commonly i do share my artwork on Deviant Art and post it for all to see.game graphics however are a different story.intended for one project and used by another to gain popularity with hard work which was not theirs to use.i couldn't imagine  how betrayed and unhappy i would have felt had this happened.selfish as it sounds that is where my mind set went over time wile working on graphics for the BW project.but the way the Eoserv community acted towards each other fed the fire of this miss trust on my part.i don't know if i would be of any use to Project Green. seeing as i am more interested in 2-D pixel art then 3-D games.weather or not i would be involved would be solely based upon  what way the game uses graphics.

I'd rather make a 2.5D game. Granted 3D is good, but I think we should keep the player base in our interest. Considering most of EO's player base found the game because they have low computer specs, just keep that in mind. Although shooting higher with a full on 3D remake of EO could alsohavemassive potential and I like the idea, just don't forget about the majority of it's current users.

@Jim: Your typing is atrocious lol ;D

But I understand fully, just don't feel like you're the one to blame. Think of it as a set back, not a failure.

So 3D map rendering / 2.5D sprites? Seems like a popular idea I've seen around before in older RPG's.

yes 3-D map rendering and 2-D sprites would work nicely it worked well for Ragnarok. which is still highly popular considering there are thousands of private Ragnarok servers out there and people still play the original game and even pay to play and receive services.initially though doing it that way will create allot more workload to the graphic art team.but these are things ive spoken about to people before. camera angles 360 degree rotation zooming in and out.but before you get into the graphical aspects it would be best to think about the way people communicate in game if the chat system is clunky and hard to use the game's social structure will be very limited.ive found that some gamers will base there experience in a game  upon how easily they can chat to others.the fact that the Endless online chat system was so simple to use made it popular .

This actually sounds interessting, I have experience in AutoDesk 3d studio max.

Also I'm known as a pixel artist here xD, anyway I'd like to know more about this.

I'd like to help if possible please add my msn which can be found in my profile.

(I do not reply on e-mails these days).

I know a lot of people are clingy towards EO and would like to see this as an EO styled 2D mmorpg. The problem with that is the idea has already been done thousands of times, and there's very limited popularity with that. As for the hardware required to render this, it doesn't really need to be much. Think of runescape, it was a 3D mmorpg around way before EO but people could still run it. Just because we want to do 3D doesn't mean you're going to need the latest and greatest video card to run it.

I do still appreciate the looks of a good 2D game, but we're planning this game for the future. If we want people to play this years from now, we're going to have to keep up with the 3D trend, which isn't even new or anything. Of course, we're still very open to ideas. Nothing here is set in concrete yet, we're still in the planning stage.

Also, to those concerned about the chat features, I think  the chat system can be built in a similar style to that of EO, such as a chat box at the bottom of the screen, and chat bubbles above talking players. Many 3D games use this style of chat and it seems to work just fine. If you have any other ideas please feel free to post them here, we value your input.

Post #53861 Re: EOSERV Community Game Project (Codename GREEN)

I'd be willing to contribute to this project long term. I have experience in 3DS max (Halo Custom Edition modeling for PC), and I'm interested in learning more advanced techniques for modeling.

I'm most interested in the programming, as I previously stated in a different thread, especially if we're not planning on using the XNA engine for the client. I'd really like to use this project as a learning experience for more advanced programming methods than XNA.

I'm willing to help in any way possible, so shoot me an e-mail if you see any need for me.

We have no need for programmers at the moment, what we need are modelers and texture artists. If you're experienced with modeling and you think you would be able to help us, please post some of your work in this topic. That goes for everyone else who thinks they may be able to help.

Well then, I'll post some old work I made.

After my Pc crashed I haven't been working on anything new so.. xD

Picture

These pictures show my experience with Autodesk 3d Studio max.

The "Psp" is made in the normal renderer and imported into a Mental ray environment.

The materials in the scene are also Mental ray (a renderer) and the train wagon or w/e is just a simle clay render.

It shows I used Bollean and extended primitives and everything I made in those sends are modeled by me.

Pixel art etc etc.

I've made more but those are in the servers, I cannot show them because of data loss.

Ignore most of the crap Michael says. For more information and updates see: http://green.tehsausage.com/blog/.

Do not insult us by calling it "3D EO", please. That is the last thing we're looking to create.
