what i mean by .com ip is game.servername.com how do u make one of these

Call the people that host your web server, and ask them to edit the AHost of your sub domain to point to the ip of the game server.

Register a domain (advertisement: allgamer.net) and then set an A record or cname for your server.

Wouldn't a CNAME only work for a pre-existing (sub)domain? To my knowledge, only A records can point directly to an IP, but I could be wrong on this.

Yes it does but some people have dynamic IPs and it's just easier to cname your no-ip/dyndns domain than constantly updating the A record.
