Encryption
| As some of you may know, yesterday we released rev1 of our new world. We're already working hard on rev2. Not 1 day into this release somebody has stolen some of our maps etc, and not given credit. Anyways, I'm not bitching, just wondering if anybody has had an idea, or knows how to encrypt the maps yet, or alter the game client so that the maps do not show. --- Web developer, currently looking for graphic artists / designers.

Re: Encryption
| You can't really unless you changed how the client read them. You could always brand the maps with some sort of design with ExyEO or something that would break the design and make it look stupid.

And btw, if i remove 2 maps from the server, we would have the first legal eo server. Re: Encryption
| It's possible to add a limited amount of protection to your maps by exploiting a weird effect of the client. It's already in r150 of EOSERV and Seose v0.2r6 but hasn't had much testing so it's kind of been ignored. You can read more information about this here: https://eoserv.net/forum/topic/3057 --- http://sordie.co.uk http://twitter.com/@SordieEO

Re: Encryption
| Yeah, I was testing it on myself and found that it loads the maps, but keeps the same 'map image' as the map you logged in on. Say you logged in at aeven, then used a stronghold scroll. Well, it would have the minimap design, tilespecs, warps, and monsters of stronghold, while having the outside look of aeven. Our maps already supposedly break any seose server that tries to load them, unsure why, but it cuts back on map thieves, so Im not complaining. What I wanted to do, was create a blank map file, named 00000.emf or something, that after the client loads the characters map, it replaces it with 00000.emf, but I dont think it could be done without somehow editing the client. But where theres a will, theres a way. --- May he now rest under aegis of mirage - As the sands slowly turn to Elysian fields

Re: Encryption
| Klutz you can always use programs like: Hide and lock files and folders programs... no1 can open them whitout that program and password :) --- Eoserv classes: Forum ghost, test player, ex-server owner, TOP 50, mapper & an oldbie
|
Re: Encryption
| Thats a very good point...we could lock down the clients map folder, so they cant access it... But anyone could come online on a normal client and steal them.. --- May he now rest under aegis of mirage - As the sands slowly turn to Elysian fields

Re: Encryption
| Actually Siran no, if your making your own custom EO, then you could add in to make the map folder read-only. --- http://www.addipop.com

Re: Encryption
| Im not sure but the server EO-Revived made it so when you download their custom made client it doesnt even show the map files, but I would consider try contacting them. Also here is a website:http://eo-revived.servegame.com/index.html *P.S.*For future notice, I don't know their Forum name, not saying there going to tell you, how they made it so the map folder doesnt show. Just saying they made it that way.

Re: Encryption
| Theres still a very simple way to access the GFX and map files from eorevived. True it stops a huge percentage of the idiots on eoserv who will steal GFX and maps. But anyone with a proper knowledge of computers will know exactly how eorevived did it. and how to access the files.
