I created a database and executed this in sql: `hp`             INTEGER     NOT NULL DEFAULT 40,

underneath character table. It still doesn't make 40HP the default health? What am I missing?

I think this will have to be handled by your formulas.ini and class pub file. The base con setting in pub file, if in the formulas.ini that class gains 40 hp from that amount of con, etc.
